Project Spotlight: Excalibur ⛵

Here at Sailutions, we get to work on some pretty cool projects, but helping John Hughes bring his new-to-him catamaran, Excalibur, to life has been a special one!

Anyone who knows John will know he’s a master multihull builder. And if you remember his previous catamaran, Slime, you’ll know the level of detail and craftsmanship he puts into his boats.

Having worked with John on Slime, he came back to Sailutions for everything hardware-related on Excalibur. In true John fashion, the boat received a full facelift, including redesigned cabin pods, deck layout and much more.

Our contribution included a mix of Seldén Mast and Rutgerson Marin hardware, including:
⛵ Rutgerson main traveller, self-tacking system and clutches
⚓ Seldén winches, Code Zero furler and plenty of blocks
🪢 New standing rigging, including synthetic rigging, and a full set of new cordage

After two years of hard work, Excalibur has finally hit the water and is now preparing for the 2026 PIC Coastal Classic!

It’s been awesome to be part of this project and see all that hard work come together. We wish John and the crew the very best of luck for the race north and will be following their progress!

We do all sorts of jobs here at Sailutions — and not all of them involve yachts! 😄

Recently, a customer came to us asking if we could replace the wires that support a bed in their campervan. We thought, “Sure, why not?” After a bit of head scratching, some problem-solving and a little learning along the way, we got the job done — and, most importantly, had a very happy customer!

At Sailutions, we carry out all sorts of wire swaging, from local dinghy stays for P-Class, Starlings and Sunbursts, right through to full keelboat rigging.

We can swage wire from 2.5 mm right up to 16 mm.

So, if you have an “in-house rigging job” that needs doing, get in touch — it might be something we can help with!

KNOW YOUR SELDÉN MAST ID

Every Seldén mast has an individual mast ID number, which is important when ordering replacement parts or getting technical support. We recommend recording your mast ID and keeping it with your yacht’s documents.

Having this number on hand makes it much easier to identify the correct components and get the right parts when you need them — especially when preparing for a big race or an offshore passage. In the worst-case scenario of a dismasting, having the mast ID readily available can also help a replacement mast be specified quickly and accurately, getting you back on the water sooner.

Redesign Of Furlex 50s

The Furlex 50s from Seldén Mast has been around for many years and is has now received a well-deserved facelift to blend seamlessly into the same design language as the larger Furlex systems.

The stainless-steel line guard has been replaced with a composite guard and line guide.

It’s always great to see a project come together successfully!

Earlier this year, we helped a customer with their Beale 33, fitting a new Rutgerson Marin 32 mm traveller system.

Careful planning was needed to make the new system fit neatly into the existing cockpit recess. We used a sliding-bolt track, allowing us to reuse the existing mounting holes without drilling new ones. The complete system was supplied ready to install, including spliced control lines.

The customer’s verdict:

“Traveller's fantastic thanks. Slides so easy! Definitely the best traveller in world for my yacht. Looks great too!”

The Rutgerson 32 mm system features a unique roller-link bearing system, giving the traveller smooth, low-friction movement even under high loads.

A great upgrade, a clean installation and another very happy customer!
