The speed limit is now 110km/h on the Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway.

The new speed limit will apply to the 15.4 km section of State Highway 1 (SH1) north of the Te Arawhiti ki Ōkahu and Te Arawhiti ki Pūhoi viaducts, 2.5km north of the Johnstone Hills tunnels, to south of the Pukerito Roundabout in Warkworth at the existing speed change location (see the map below).

For safety, Te Arawhiti ki Ōkahu and Te Arawhiti ki Pūhoi viaducts will remain at 100 km/h.

Travel safely if you're using the motorway. Don't exceed the speed limit, watch out for speed limit signage, slow down in bad conditions such as bad weather or traffic, keep a safe following distance from people in front of you, and keep left unless you’re passing. You cannot stop your vehicle on the motorway.

The speed limit for heavy vehicles and people towing is 90km/h. You can’t exceed 90km/h if you’re driving a heavy vehicle or if you’re towing something.

Our website has more information about the speed increase: http://www.nzta.govt.nz/projects/sh1-northern-gateway-toll-road-and-ara-tuhono-puhoi-to-warkworth-motorway-speed-limit-review/

Braking without checking mirrors. This means, not knowing what is behind you before braking.
Not coming to a ‘complete stop’ at a stop sign.
Taking too long to move into traffic.
Not staying left on unmarked roads.
Hitting the curb.
Not being able to park safely.
There are many other ‘poor driving’ situations seen on the roads.
