Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes to keep our ferries running safely and reliably?

Each winter, our vessels head north to Whangārei for their annual slip, where they're lifted out of the water for essential maintenance, inspections and a little TLC before returning to service.

It's all part of ensuring safe, reliable journeys for our customers and communities.

Take a look behind the scenes and see what's involved.

You’d be surprised at how many people haven’t been to Aotea, Great Barrier Island.

Here’s a few fun facts you might not know about the hidden gem of the Hauraki Gulf.

• Aotea is New Zealand's fourth-largest island
• It is one of the world's few Dark Sky Sanctuaries. And actually, the first island to be given the status back in 2017.
• There are no traffic lights!
• Around 60% of the island is protected conservation land. Ka pai!
• Home to Kaitoke Hot Springs, natural hot springs hidden away in the bush.

With so much to discover across 280km² of rugged coastline, beaches, forests and hidden gems, having your own vehicle is the best way to experience everything the island has to offer.

SeaLink Service Update – 16/07

Due to heavy fog this morning, followed by ongoing fog in the Tāmaki River at Half Moon Bay, Sea Quest has experienced significant delays. Unfortunately, these delays are expected to continue throughout the day. Low tide conditions also mean the vessel will need to travel around Browns Island, adding further time to the journey.

To help keep services running as reliably as possible, the following sailings have been updated:

10:30am Kennedy Point → 11:30am
12:00pm Half Moon Bay → 1:00pm
1:30pm Kennedy Point → 3:00pm
3:00pm Half Moon Bay → 5:00pm
4:30pm Kennedy Point → 6:30pm

We sincerely apologise for the disruption and appreciate your patience and understanding while these weather conditions impact our operations.
