Alright, we're stumped. And we're okay with that.

This Pontiac Tempest Le Mans (early '60s, we think) rolled into our last Supercharged Cars and Coffee and we've been scratching our heads ever since.

Custom rear arches. Coilover towers out back. Big-diameter billet wheels giving off serious Australian custom vibes. Under the bonnet? We spotted an MSD, a wide-belt drive, and a tasty fuel pressure regulator and fittings. Beyond that... your guess is as good as ours.

First time we've seen a Tempest Le Mans. That's why we love this event.

So, engine spotters... what V8 are we looking at? Drop your knowledge in the comments 👇

Our next Cars and Coffee is Saturday 20th June. If you're building something custom, we've got tyres, rod ends, gauges, steering wheels, seats, fuel tanks, and everything in between including the alignment!

Why do we need your axle weights before selling you suspension?

Cars have gotten heavier, and two identical-looking cars can be hundreds of kilos apart depending on spec. Electric seats. Sunroof. Estate body. Leather trim. It all adds up.

Suspension brands now develop kits for specific variants - spring rates and damper tuning tailored to your actual car, not just the badge on the boot.

So when we ask for your axle weights, it's not us being awkward. It's us making sure your car handles exactly how it should.

Before the Saxo. Before the Fiesta ST. Before hot hatches were even a thing, you had two choices for a genuinely engaging, affordable drive: the Mini, or the Imp.

This Singer Chamois is the posh Imp. And just like the Mini, with a little fettling, it became a giant killer.

But here’s the best bit. The 875 cc Coventry Climax engine was originally designed as a water pump for the Fire Brigade. Light enough for two soldiers to carry, tough enough to run unattended for 24 hours. Then someone realised it was also a brilliant little race engine. (Rumour has it the engineers at Climax knew exactly what they were doing, but the official story is they accidentally built a legend.)

Irony of ironies, an engine designed to pump water had a reputation for overheating.

This one sits lower on period 12” Dunlop alloys, wears a deep metallic red that gives the boxy Imp shapes real depth, and has been tastefully upgraded with period bucket seats. It’s a reminder that long before hot hatches became a genre, cars like this were doing exactly the same thing—just with the engine in the back.

And here’s the thing. These platforms were surprisingly capable. Imp derivatives won the British Touring Car Championship three years in a row, countless rallies, and 30 races in a single season. This little car has racing pedigree.

Some seats hold you. This one defines the benchmark.

The Recaro Pole Position is the finishing jewel in any modified interior. Japanese. German. French. Doesn't matter. The moment you see that silhouette - those slim, angled harness slots, the aggressive side bolsters - you know the car means business.

Its shell DNA traces back to the Porsche 964 RS, one of the most sought-after seats in automotive history. But unlike those unobtainable originals, the Pole Position is still here, still FIA-approved, and still setting the standard.

It's the seat that's been copied a thousand times. Yet the real thing is unmistakable.

Proper benchmark cool.

Some designs don't just belong to a car. They belong to an era. The OZ Rally Racing wheel is one of them. Worn by Toyota Celicas, Lancia Deltas, and Ford Es**rt Cosworths on the world's toughest stages, it became a visual shorthand for 90s WRC dominance. It's the wheel that was on Carlos Sainz's car when he won his first world title in 1990.

The modern version keeps the DNA - the white finish, the red OZ Racing logo, that unmistakable central disc - but adds a sharper spoke design that makes it look even wider and more purposeful.

A forty-year legacy, still turning heads.

The MK1 Mini Cooper S (R53). It's the ultimate cheap track car contender. Plentiful. Cheap. Actually has a boot.

But is it better value than an MX-5?

The R53 gives you supercharged torque low down and a chassis that's surprisingly adjustable. The MX-5 gives you RWD, pop-up headlights (on NAs), and that high-revving theatre. Both weigh about the same. Both have problems. Both will put a grin on your face.

The difference? The Mini is more practical, more torquey, and currently cheaper to buy. The MX-5 is more of an event, more of a commitment, and prices are climbing.

So what's it going to be? Supercharger whine or sideways exits?

Toyota accidentally created the perfect drift platform. The JZX100 was designed as a million-mile luxury cruiser - over-engineered, bombproof, and built to last. Then someone figured out you could bolt a 1JZ or 2JZ in with factory mounts, swap in a manual box using a standard crossmember, and suddenly you had a budget drifter built to take abuse.

This Chaser 😘 (or is it a Mark II?) runs exactly that formula. 1JZ swap. BMW manual box. Work Emotion T5Rs on Uniroyal Rainsports. Origin Labo kit. Blitz. Nardi. It's a proper drift car, fresh from its last Drift Matsuri battle and currently being put back together.

Still needs to go lower. Still room for more power.

We sell the bits that make builds like this work. Drift tyres. Coilovers. Suspension parts. Turbos. Safety gear. Seats, harnesses, fire systems, helmets. Everything you need to keep a JZX sliding on a drift day, reliably. We've got you covered.
