A classic Mini that has not been used much can need more attention than you might expect.🤔

This 1986 Austin Mini 1000 City E has mainly come in for MOT related work, but a couple of years of limited use have started to show. Some of the rubber components are perishing and the brakes are beginning to stick.

Cars like this generally respond well to being used and maintained regularly. Leaving them standing can create its own set of problems, particularly around brakes, rubber components and other service items.

Our approach here is straightforward. Go through the basics properly, deal with what has deteriorated and get the car back into reliable use.

Sometimes routine maintenance is exactly what an older car needs.

Whether it is a modern car, a classic, a restoration project or a track-focused build, we take a measured approach and look at what the car genuinely needs. The focus is always on sound engineering, careful workmanship and making the finished car feel right for the person driving it.

We prefer a calm, practical approach: listen first, assess properly and carry out the work with care.

All work is carried out within applicable UK safety, emissions, roadworthiness and vehicle-use requirements.

🚗A track focused car still had to work properly on the road.

At this stage of the MH27 Golf development, most of the software was already in place. The road test gave us the chance to assess drivability, road behaviour and the smaller calibration details that only become obvious once the car is being used properly.

That meant putting mileage on it, feeling how the setup behaved in real conditions and working through the remaining kinks before further track development.

The final few percent usually comes from using the car, not just looking at data.

This road test was part of the MH27 Golf development process. We put miles on the car, assessed the drivability and worked through the remaining areas of software calibration.

At that stage, the focus was on refinement rather than outright performance.

Throttle response, road behaviour and the smaller calibration details all contributed to how the car actually felt to drive.

That kind of development only became clear once the car was used properly on the road.
