πŸ”₯ YOUR OM651 IS TRYING TO BREATHE THROUGH THIS?! 😳

This is what we found inside a Mercedes OM651 inlet manifold.

That’s not a little bit of dirt.
That’s years of carbon, soot and oil buildup restricting the airflow into the engine. 🀯

And look at the throttle body… it’s absolutely covered too.

When the intake system gets this bad, your Mercedes may start showing the signs:

❌ Loss of power
❌ Poor acceleration
❌ Increased fuel consumption
❌ Limp mode
❌ EGR-related faults
❌ Excessive smoke
❌ DPF problems
❌ Poor engine performance

The problem is that many owners keep driving because the van still starts and runs.

But an engine needs AIR.

If the inlet is heavily restricted, cleaning only the DPF or replacing sensors isn’t necessarily going to solve the real problem.

πŸ”§ At VAN AUTO LTD, when we diagnose Mercedes diesel problems, we look at the whole system β€” intake, EGR, DPF, turbo and related components β€” rather than just throwing parts at the fault codes.

This OM651 definitely needed attention. 😬

πŸ‘‡ Be honest β€” how blocked would you say this inlet is? 50%? 70%? 90%?

🚨 GUESS THE FAULT β€” EP.22 REVEAL 🚨

THE ANSWER? THE FAULT WAS ALREADY FIXED. πŸ˜³πŸ˜‚

That huge cloud of smoke had everyone guessing:

πŸ’¨ Head gasket?
πŸ’¨ Diesel runaway?
πŸ’¨ Injectors?
πŸ’¨ AdBlue?
πŸ’¨ Blown turbo?

Here’s what was actually happening… πŸ‘‡

πŸ”§ The turbo had already been replaced.
πŸ”§ The entire intake / air system was cleaned to remove the oil left behind from the failed turbo.
πŸ”§ The DPF was removed and deep cleaned.
πŸ”§ The exhaust/emissions system still contained residual oil, water and moisture from the failure and cleaning process.

πŸ”₯ What you’re watching is the post-repair regeneration/test, bringing the exhaust system up to temperature and burning/drying everything left behind.

So the massive smoke cloud wasn’t the engine destroying itself…

IT WAS THE CLEAN-UP AFTER THE REPAIR. πŸ˜‚πŸ’¨

And yes β€” some of you got VERY close. πŸ‘€πŸ‘

This is exactly why diagnosing a vehicle from smoke colour alone can send you completely the wrong way.

Who called it? πŸ‘‡
And who was ready to condemn the engine? πŸ˜‚

🚨 GUESS THE FAULT β€” EP.22 🚨

THIS SPRINTER IS TRYING TO DISAPPEAR. πŸ’¨πŸ˜‚

Look at the amount of smoke coming out of it… 😳

The van runs β€” but something is VERY wrong.

No clues yet.
No fault codes.
No diagnosis.

Just watch the smoke and tell us what YOU think. πŸ‘€πŸ”§

πŸ’ Turbo?
πŸ’ Injectors?
πŸ’ Head gasket?
πŸ’ DPF problem?
πŸ’ Engine damage?
πŸ’ Something else?

We already know what happened…

BUT DO YOU? 😏

πŸ‘‡ Drop your diagnosis in the comments.

The best answers get a shoutout in the REVEAL β€” EP.22.

πŸ”₯ Mercedes specialists vs the internet β€” let’s see who gets it first.

🚨 REMEMBER THE DESTROYED TURBO? THIS IS WHAT WE FOUND NEXT… 😳

This Mercedes Sprinter 907 arrived at VAN AUTO on recovery with a completely destroyed turbo. πŸ’€

The compressor wheel was destroyed β€” but replacing the turbo was only the beginning.

We said from the start:

❌ DON’T JUST FIT ANOTHER TURBO.
πŸ” CHECK THE WHOLE SYSTEM.

And this is exactly why.

We removed the intercooler…

πŸ›’οΈ FULL OF OIL.

Then we checked the exhaust side…

πŸ›’οΈ THE CATALYST WAS FULL OF OIL TOO. 😳

The failed turbo had contaminated BOTH SIDES of the system.

Imagine simply bolting on another turbo and starting the engine without checking any of this. πŸ’€

After a catastrophic turbo failure, you need to inspect:

πŸ”§ Intercooler
πŸ”§ Boost pipes
πŸ”§ Intake system
πŸ”§ Turbo oil feed & return
πŸ”§ Catalyst / DPF / exhaust system
πŸ”§ Oil and debris throughout the system

ONE FAILED TURBO CAN LEAVE A LOT MORE DAMAGE BEHIND.

πŸ”₯ DON’T JUST REPLACE THE FAILED PART.
FIND THE CAUSE. CHECK THE DAMAGE. FIX IT RIGHT.

EP.21 β€” THE REVEAL IS DELAYED… πŸ˜¬πŸ”§

You lot have been asking for the answer β€” and we haven’t forgotten! πŸ˜‚

Truth is, the workshop has been absolutely flat out and we haven’t had time to open this engine yet.

And we’re not going to fake a diagnosis just for a video.

Big end bearings? Injector? Crank pulley? Lifters?

One final chance. πŸ‘‡
What’s your FINAL diagnosis?

Once we open it, you’ll see exactly what failed. πŸ”₯

EP.21 REVEAL β€” COMING.

πŸ˜‚ YES, WE KNOW YOU’RE WAITING! Final guesses below πŸ‘‡ We’re opening it properly β€” no guessing, no fake reveal. πŸ”§

🚨 GUESS THE FAULT β€” EP.21 🚨

THIS MERCEDES ENGINE DOESN’T SOUND HAPPY… πŸ˜³πŸ”¨

2016 Mercedes GLC came into VAN AUTO with a serious engine knocking noise.

Listen carefully. πŸ”Š

What do YOU think is causing it?

Timing chain? ⛓️
Injector? πŸ’‰
Bottom end? πŸ‘€
Piston / conrod? πŸ’€
Or something completely different?

⚠️ No clues yet. No parts cannon. Just the sound.

Drop your diagnosis in the comments πŸ‘‡
Let’s see who gets EP.21 right before we open it up.

πŸ”₯ TURN THE VOLUME UP. πŸ”Š

Yesterday this V8 was in pieces.

Today?

Head gasket done.
Engine rebuilt.
V8 back where it belongs.

No music needed for this one. 🎧

Would you call this the perfect engine sound? πŸ‘‡

18/08/2026

🚨 BACK FROM THE DEAD… THIS V8 LIVES AGAIN. πŸ”₯

Remember the GL420 V8 from Guess The Fault EP.17?

The engine is back together β€” and today it went back where it belongs. πŸ’ͺ

After stripping it down, we found the failed head gasket allowing coolant into the cylinder.

This wasn’t a quick patch-up.

πŸ”§ Both cylinder heads done
πŸ”§ New head gaskets
πŸ”§ All seals & gaskets replaced
πŸ”§ Oil cooler done
πŸ”§ Radiator done
πŸ”§ DPF deep cleaned
πŸ”§ Fresh oil & final checks
πŸ”§ Engine rebuilt, refitted and running again

From coolant inside the cylinder and a V8 in pieces…

➑️ TO A COMPLETE ENGINE BACK IN THE CAR.

No shortcuts.
No guessing.
Do it once. Do it properly.

πŸ”₯ THE V8 HAS RISEN FROM THE ASHES.

Now it’s ready to hit the road again. πŸ’¨
