Well this job escalated quickly 😅 The bike was booked in for an idling problem, where it would cut out at idle, especially when warm. I suspected tight valve clearances were the problem so I carried out some basic diagnostics check and then proceeded to check the valve clearances. 2 cylinders had zero valve clearance on the exhaust valves. With a massive jump in shim size to get the correct clearance I then carried out a leak down test to check cylinder sealing. The two cylinders that had the tight clearances, which have now been set, have massive leakage past the exhaust valves indicating badly worn valves and/or valve seats. So now it needs the heads removing, stripping, inspecting and rebuilding with whatever parts are required.

Due to ever increasing demand, I am looking for an experienced mechanic to join the team. The ideal candidate would be competent in servicing all major brands, fault finding and general repairs. An advantage would be suspension servicing, Dyno work and basic engine rebuilding abilities, but training can be provided for these. Just a notice to anyone that is thinking of booking their bike in with me, I'm currently fully booked until November so can't take any more work on until then. Also a note, if anyone is looking at any winter jobs doing, it might pay to plan ahead before the winter gets fully booked.

Another bike that's had some great gains on the Dyno lately was this Triumph Scrambler 1200. The customer had fitted a new exhaust and wanted the ECU mapped to suit. Both cylinders were mapped individually with a lot of attention paid to the throttle and rev range that would most be used on the road. The graph shows the gains at 100% throttle and similar gains were made at every throttle opening. This bike will feel so much nicer to ride now.

That's the last batch of Kove 450rr engines built and run in, ready to head off for the last 3 rounds of World Sportbike.

This KTM RC8 was on the Dyno earlier in the week and we managed to get some great gains in torque all the way through the rev range, as well as making if feel nice and smooth when coming on and off the throttle. It should feel like a completely different bike to ride now.
