🛶 September is secretly the best month to paddle the River Stour.
The school holiday crowds are gone, so you'll actually get the river to yourself. More space on the water and easier parking. The water's also at its warmest all year, since it's spent all summer soaking up heat, while the air's finally cooled down to something far more comfortable for paddling than the height of summer.
Then there's the scenery. Golden autumn light makes the Stour Valley look every bit as good as it does in Constable's paintings, and you'll still catch kingfishers and herons along the banks!
