Hopefully, this will help the test situation. Another significant factor, is people attending tests when they're not fully prepared....& inevitably failing. That slot could have been used by someone who is fully trained, prepared & ready
Unfortunately, until this is addressed, this will continue to be an issue.
Don't even think about if that candidate gets lucky on the day, when they're not fully prepared to drive unattended afterwards.

BORROWED....BUT THIS IS COMPLETELY MY MANTRA WHEN TEACHING....

I will teach you to drive first.
When you can drive safely, independently and consistently, then we will talk about a test.

If that does not align with what you want, then I may not be the right instructor for you.

There is a growing obsession with shortcuts.
Fewer hours.
Fast pass.
Get it done.
Move on.

That approach is not ambition.
It is risk.

Rushing the process creates drivers who can maybe, if they are lucky, pass a test.... but cannot read the road.
Drivers who have not developed judgement.
Drivers who react instead of anticipate.

This is not a checklist exercise.
This is a heavy machine moving at speed among other human beings.
Your life matters.
Your passengers matter.
So does everyone else sharing that road.

Reducing your training to the absolute minimum does not make you efficient.
It leaves you exposed.

A driving test does not create safety.
Strong foundations do.
Repetition does.
Experience does.
Proper instruction does.

If you are searching for someone who will move you through quickly to keep you satisfied, you will find them.

I am not that instructor.

I build drivers who understand responsibility themselves.
I build drivers who are prepared.

Safety will always come first.

Congratulations Tom Eckford, who passed his test at his first attempt. Having not taken Tom for several months, he was making very good progress with his lessons, though I was informed that they were stopped until he passed his theory! I'm assuming he continued practicing/learning privately until a successful test result was achieved.

Huge well done to Max Horner, who passed his test today at his first attempt, with just 2 minor driver faults....& after only 25hrs tuition!
Having recently gotten his car on the road, he attended the test in his own car & flew through it.

Big well done Anya Brown. After a while of "on/off" driving, I took Anya for several lessons to try & 'tidy up' her already pretty good driving. Unfortunately, due to her accepting a job in London, I was unable to take her for lessons to lead her up to her recent test in Walton. However, she came back for a little while & took the test in her own car & passed with just 1 minor driver fault.

Big well done to Eliza Dale, who passed her test at her first attempt this afternoon. After buying her own car, Eliza decided to practice her way up to her test & take the test in her own car, without the need for any further lessons.

🚗 PLEASE READ — PUPILS & PARENTS - The Driving Test 🚗

We understand how frustrating driving test waiting times are right now. However, we are seeing an increase in pupils wanting to take tests before they are ready, sometimes with pressure placed on your Driving Instructor to agree.

We want to be clear:

👉 Safety will always come before reviews or pressure.

If your instructor is still:

🛑 telling you when to change gear
🛑 asking speed limits
🛑 talking you through manoeuvres
🛑 telling you which lane or exit to take
🛑 helping you judge space or positioning

…then you are NOT test ready!

Instructors only give honest, professional advice. Abuse, threats, or pressure may result in lessons or calls being ended immediately.

Remember — when the test starts, it’s just you and the Driving Examiner. No prompts, no help, just your own ability.

Nerves are normal. Doubt usually means more practice is needed.

This is a skill for life — not just a test.

Thank you for understanding and helping keep everyone safe on the roads
