This is a PureTech wetbelt — and it’s one of the most talked-about issues in the automotive world right now.
The 1.0, 1.2, and 1.2 turbo PureTech engines fitted to many Vauxhall, Peugeot, and Citroen models use a timing belt that runs in oil — unlike a conventional dry belt. Over time, that belt degrades, stretches, and can snap without any warning. When it goes, it takes the engine with it. We’re talking catastrophic engine failure, and bills that can run into thousands.
The frustrating thing is there’s often no warning light, no strange noise beforehand. It just goes.
