📢 SEPTEMBER BOOKINGS UPDATE 📢

Well… September appears to have (almost) turned up, It's had a quick look at the diary, laughed, and then thrown 3 rally events at us all at once 🏁😂

So......... we currently have 3, yes that 3! events in production, with 2 of them needing event graphics for 125+ vehicles — plus officials graphics, fluorescent numbers, and all the other wee bits that somehow turn into several mountains of vinyl! 😵‍💫🖨️

On top of that, we also have multiple rally customers needing livery work completed, because apparently “quiet week / month” is not a phrase we are allowed to use at SDGraphics anymore 🤣

Due to these event bookings, we are currently working on a 3–5 week turnaround for other work that is not rally-related, already in production etc.

Any jobs required for Mull26 weekend, please get in touch ASAP so we can make sure we have space allocated for this.

We will also be operating slightly “strange” working hours, so turning up at the workshop will most likely get you a locked door and a lovely view of absolutely nothing 👀🔒😂

Saturday & Sunday's: we will not be open or answering calls, messages, smoke signals, carrier pigeons or interpretive dance requests… as this is pretty much the only time Stu gets at home with the family! 🏡🧡
When We say "at home with the family", what we mean is: Away at some other rally related place doing a Recce, Set-up notes, Route planning or "something"!!!😂

If anything is urgent, please WhatsApp and someone will get back to you when possible.

🏖️ WE’RE ON HOLIDAY! 🏖️

SDGraphics will be closing at 1pm on Monday 27 July for some actual annual leave!

Well… we’re going away for a wedding.

But that still counts as a holiday, right? 😂🥂💍

No rally-stage setup, no signs, no stakes, no forestry roads and, hopefully, very few conversations involving work.

We’ll be away until Monday 3 August. However, we’ll be travelling back “down south” on the Monday for work — because apparently returning from holiday and going straight back to the workshop would be far too sensible. 🙄

SDGraphics will therefore officially be back in the office from Tuesday 4 August, HOWEVER, we have a full workshop on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday!

During this time, access to emails and messages will be limited, and business calls will not be answered.

Normal SDGraphics chaos will resume once we’re back, unpacked and financially recovered from attending a wedding. 😂🍻

🏖️ OUT OF OFFICE — ANNUAL LEAVE 🏖️

SDGraphics is now officially closed while we enjoy a lovely, relaxing holiday…

And by holiday, we obviously mean heading off to set up the stages for next weekend’s RSAC Scottish Rally. 🏁🌲🚧

Nothing says “annual leave” quite like early starts, long days in the forest, hammering in stakes, putting up signs, rolling out miles of tape and being eaten alive by midges.

Sun loungers and cocktails are massively overrated anyway. 😂

Access to emails, WhatsApp and social media will be very, very limited, and we will not be answering business calls during this time.

SDGraphics will reopen on Monday 20th July at 10am, when normal working chaos, printer tantrums and customer emergencies will resume.

Until then, we’re on holiday.

📢 Bookings Update / Controlled Chaos Notice 📢

Due to another mental lead up to another rally event — this time the RSAC Scottish Rally in Dalbeattie — we are now unable to take on any more bookings outwith rally-related work until Monday 20th July.

The workshop is currently running at full pelt with print files, production plans, installs, signage commitments, and everything else that apparently needed done yesterday… because obviously one rally wasn’t enough to keep us entertained 🏁😂

Basically, if the printer isn’t running, the plotter is. If the plotter isn’t running, Stu is. If Stu isn’t running, check he’s still breathing and hand him a coffee ☕🤣

For any last-minute work for existing customers relating to the Scottish Rally, please email us as soon as possible so we can see what we can do and attempt to squeeze you in somewhere between the chaos, caffeine, vinyl, and mild panic 😵‍💫☕🧡

In other news...

Stu will be away from Saturday 11th at 6am through to Sunday 19th at 6pm as Deputy Equipment Officer / Set Up.

This means phone signal and work comms will be somewhere between “patchy”, “no chance”, and “he’s probably halfway up a forest track wondering where the last sign went” 📵🌲😂

On the Saturday and Sunday, there will be zero phone comms, apart from when he’s back at the accommodation at night — assuming he remembers what a phone is by then 🤣 Or he hasn't broken "another van"

Monday and Tuesday are already reserved for wrap installs for our usual rally customers, and from Wednesday through to Saturday, Stu will not be contactable regarding work.

If anything is TRUELY urgent, please WhatsApp and someone will get back to you when possible. Smoke signals may also be considered, but WhatsApp is probably more reliable… just 🚩😂

🔥 WORKSHOP UPDATE / PRINTER MELTDOWN PREVENTION NOTICE 🔥

Due to the print room currently sitting at a delightful 30°C… and it’s only just gone past 8.45am, we’ve made the executive decision to work from home today and return to the workshop tonight once the temperature drops from “Satan’s conservatory” to something vaguely workable. 🥵🔥

Unfortunately, our printers are temperamental little divas when it gets too hot.

Not because it’s warm outside… oh no. That would be too simple.

It’s because the heater plates on these machines run at over 50°C when it’s a normal Scottish day — you know, sideways rain, grey skies, and everyone pretending summer might happen this year. 🌧️😂

So when Scotland suddenly decides to identify as the Costa del Selkirk, the print room quickly turns into a sauna with ink cartridges. 🖨️🌴

At this point, the printers are sweating, Stu is sweating, the vinyl is thinking about becoming soup, and the laminator is giving off strong “don’t even look at me” energy. 😅

Emails and messages are still being monitored from home, so please send anything urgent by email or DM and we’ll reply as soon as we can — probably while sitting in front of a fan questioning every life choice that led us to owning heat-generating machines during a heatwave. 😂

We’ll be back in the workshop tonight once it cools down and the printers stop acting like Victorian children with a fever.

🚨 Mega Busy Week......... "Continuing" 🚨

It’s another slightly chaotic week here at SDGraphics as we head into the run up to the Argyll Rally in Dunoon 🏁

We are out on installs today and, most likely, a fair chunk of tonight too… because apparently sleep is optional at this time of year 😂

On Thursday, Stu heads off to catch the early “water taxi” over to Dunoon to meet up with Aaron and get started on setting up the stages they are running for the rally.

Because of this, between now and Sunday night, emails and calls are unlikely to be answered. We’re not ignoring anyone — we’re just either up a forestry road (which is slightly concerning as its a tarmac event!), on a ferry, covered in signage, or wondering why we agreed to this again 🤣

It’s back to the grind on Monday morning from 6am, and by around 11am we should have some sort of idea what planet we’re on, what day it is, and what the week’s workload looks like ☕😂

Due to the Selkirk Common Riding taking place this Friday (12/06), we won’t be in the workshop.

Instead, we’ll be “working from home”… which basically means emails on the laptop, phone calls diverted to Stu’s mobile, and probably a strong chance of the kettle being overworked ☕😂

If you need to get hold of us, please fire over an email where possible, as that’ll be the easiest and quickest way for us to reply.

A wee friendly reminder from your local graphics gremlins… 👹🎨🖨️

AI artwork is brilliant. 👏
Honestly, it’s a fantastic tool for creating visual ideas, concepts, rough directions and those “this is the kind of thing I’m thinking” moments. 💡👀
It can be a great starting point for a design conversation. 🗣️🎨

BUT… 😬

At this point in time, AI generated images from ChatGPT and similar platforms are not print-ready artwork. 🚫🖨️

They are not properly scaled. 📏❌
They are not vector files. 🧩❌
They are not layered production artwork. 🗂️❌
They do not have correct cut paths. ✂️❌
They do not have proper bleed. 🩸❌
They are not colour-managed for print. 🌈❌
They are not magically ready to fire straight through a printer, plotter or laminator. 🖨️⚙️🔥❌

So when someone sends over an AI image and says:

“Can you just print this?” 🤔

The answer is usually:

“Aye… but first it needs completely rebuilt.” 😅🫠

Recreating artwork for print is a proper process. 🧠💻
It can involve multiple pieces of software, proper file setup, redraws, vector work, colour adjustments, scaling, production knowledge and, most importantly, years of actual experience knowing what will and won’t work once it leaves the screen. 👨‍🎨🖱️📐🖨️

And here’s the really important bit… 👇

It will never match the AI image exactly. 🚫🎯

AI can make something that looks cool on a screen, but it doesn’t always make something that physically makes sense, lines up correctly, can be cut, wrapped, fitted, printed cleanly or produced at full size. 🚗🎨✂️📏🧱

So please remember this when sending “designs” to graphics companies and expecting them to “just print it”. 🙏😂

Because obviously it’ll only take a few minutes…

AI is a great idea tool. 💡🤖
Print-ready artwork is a skilled job. 🎨🖨️💪

There’s a big difference between the two. 👌🔥
