🚨 Mega Busy Week......... "Continuing" 🚨

It’s another slightly chaotic week here at SDGraphics as we head into the run up to the Argyll Rally in Dunoon 🏁

We are out on installs today and, most likely, a fair chunk of tonight too… because apparently sleep is optional at this time of year 😂

On Thursday, Stu heads off to catch the early “water taxi” over to Dunoon to meet up with Aaron and get started on setting up the stages they are running for the rally.

Because of this, between now and Sunday night, emails and calls are unlikely to be answered. We’re not ignoring anyone — we’re just either up a forestry road (which is slightly concerning as its a tarmac event!), on a ferry, covered in signage, or wondering why we agreed to this again 🤣

It’s back to the grind on Monday morning from 6am, and by around 11am we should have some sort of idea what planet we’re on, what day it is, and what the week’s workload looks like ☕😂

📢 Workshop Update 📢

Due to the Selkirk Common Riding taking place this Friday (12/06), we won’t be in the workshop.

Instead, we’ll be “working from home”… which basically means emails on the laptop, phone calls diverted to Stu’s mobile, and probably a strong chance of the kettle being overworked ☕😂

If you need to get hold of us, please fire over an email where possible, as that’ll be the easiest and quickest way for us to reply.

🤖✨ AI GENERATED ARTWORK / DESIGNS ✨🤖

A wee friendly reminder from your local graphics gremlins… 👹🎨🖨️

AI artwork is brilliant. 👏
Honestly, it’s a fantastic tool for creating visual ideas, concepts, rough directions and those “this is the kind of thing I’m thinking” moments. 💡👀
It can be a great starting point for a design conversation. 🗣️🎨

BUT… 😬

At this point in time, AI generated images from ChatGPT and similar platforms are not print-ready artwork. 🚫🖨️

They are not properly scaled. 📏❌
They are not vector files. 🧩❌
They are not layered production artwork. 🗂️❌
They do not have correct cut paths. ✂️❌
They do not have proper bleed. 🩸❌
They are not colour-managed for print. 🌈❌
They are not magically ready to fire straight through a printer, plotter or laminator. 🖨️⚙️🔥❌

So when someone sends over an AI image and says:

“Can you just print this?” 🤔

The answer is usually:

“Aye… but first it needs completely rebuilt.” 😅🫠

Recreating artwork for print is a proper process. 🧠💻
It can involve multiple pieces of software, proper file setup, redraws, vector work, colour adjustments, scaling, production knowledge and, most importantly, years of actual experience knowing what will and won’t work once it leaves the screen. 👨‍🎨🖱️📐🖨️

And here’s the really important bit… 👇

It will never match the AI image exactly. 🚫🎯

AI can make something that looks cool on a screen, but it doesn’t always make something that physically makes sense, lines up correctly, can be cut, wrapped, fitted, printed cleanly or produced at full size. 🚗🎨✂️📏🧱

So please remember this when sending “designs” to graphics companies and expecting them to “just print it”. 🙏😂

Because obviously it’ll only take a few minutes…

Won’t it? 🙃😂🫣

AI is a great idea tool. 💡🤖
Print-ready artwork is a skilled job. 🎨🖨️💪

There’s a big difference between the two. 👌🔥

⚠️ A polite but very serious reminder about booking slots. ⚠️

When we allocate a booking slot for your vehicle, that time is set aside specifically for you.

It is not “just an hour in the diary”. 🗓️

For example, a morning can look something like this:

🖨️ 5.30am – 9.30am
Printing jobs before the day starts.

💻 8.00am – 9.30am
Design work running alongside the printers.

🚗 9.30am – 11.00am
Vehicle 1 booked in.

🚙 11.00am – 12.30pm
Vehicle 2 booked in.

Then the rest of the day is built around those bookings — production, fitting, cutting, plotting, collections, artwork approvals, staff time, and the next jobs already waiting in the queue. 🔄

So when both booked vehicles do not turn up, and no one lets us know, it does not just leave an empty space in the diary.

It throws the whole day out. 🤯

Today, for example, we had another customer who wanted to sit down and go through design alterations. That had to be pushed back because vehicles were booked into the workshop. 💻✏️

Now those vehicles are not here, that customer has been delayed unnecessarily — and understandably, they are not happy. 😬

Behind the scenes, it also means production has to be changed around. 🧩

Jobs that were planned to be cut down have to be moved.
Plotters have to be rescheduled to fit around everything that has changed.
Staff end up standing waiting on work that should have been plotted, cut, prepared, or fitted.
Other customers’ jobs get shuffled about to try and make the best of a bad situation.

It costs us money. 💷
It wastes allocated workshop time. ⏱️
It delays other customers. 🚦
It affects carefully planned production schedules. 📋
And it damages relationships with customers who would have taken that slot and turned up on time. 🤝

We completely understand that things happen. Vehicles break, work changes, plans move, life gets in the way. 🚐💨

But please — just let us know as early as possible. 📲

A quick message or phone call gives us a chance to rearrange the day, move another customer forward, adjust production, or make use of the time elsewhere.

No-shows, especially with no contact, really do make things difficult for a small business like ours. 🏭

We try our best to be flexible, helpful, and fair with everyone — but that has to work both ways.

Going forward, repeated no-shows or late cancellations may require a deposit before any further booking slots are allocated. ✅

Good morning folks 👋☕️

Just a wee update from us 📢

Due to the absolutely mental amount of work we had on over the last few weeks in the lead-up to the Jim Clark Rally weekend 🏁🚗💨, we most definitely needed yesterday off for a bit of downtime 😴🙌

That… and it was Ema-Louise’s birthday 🎉🎂, so we disappeared off to Edinburgh for the afternoon for some child free time, food and a bit of shopping! 🏙️🥳

We’re now back in the office 🖥️🖨️ and working our way through the mountain of messages, emails and WhatsApps 📩📧📱

We promise we’ll get back to each and every person as quickly as humanly possible 🫡

Yet again, thank you for your patience and understanding during our busy periods 🙏❤️ We really do appreciate it.

We are a very, very small team — basically Stu juggling design, print, production and installs 🎨🖨️✂️🚐, with Ema-Louise helping in production between school runs, parenting and generally keeping things together 👩‍👧💪😂

We’ll do our best to get everything back running smoothly by the end of this week ⚙️✅

Just in time for the madness to start all over again 😅🏁🔥

Not content with doing 14 hour shifts for the last 7 days straight, we decided the obvious next step was…

Night installs. 🌙
Because sleep is clearly just a rumour at this point.

Then, just to really test our life choices, we thought:

“Do you know what this week needs? A 36 hour shift.” 💀☕️

And here we are… stood at the back of a Peugeot at some ungodly hour, questioning absolutely everything while still somehow loving it 😂

People see the finished car and think:
“That looks smart.”

What they don’t see is:
☕ the caffeine intake of a small village
🖥 last minute artwork changes
🛠 trim, panels, vinyl and mild panic
😵‍💫 the moment you forget what day it is
👀 staring at badges and body lines like they’ve personally offended you

Rally cars eh…

Beautiful things.
Absolute nightmares.
The reason we’re tired, skint on sleep, and still daft enough to say:

“Aye go on then, we’ll get it done.” 😂🏁

What they DON’T see is the ridiculous amount of hours behind the scenes getting it to this stage 😅

Designing.
Tweaking.
Moving lines 5mm.
Changing colours.
Re-printing samples.
Standing staring at renderings wondering if it’ll actually flow on the real car 🤯😂
Computer renders are brilliant for building concepts… but they only tell half the story.

You NEED to know the car.
The body lines.
The curves.
The awkward corners.
How the vinyl stretches.
How graphics will flow once it’s physically wrapped around a panel at stupid angles 😬

This year’s design fought us every step of the way 😂

Countless revisions.
Loads of late nights.
Plenty “that looked better on screen” moments…

But when it finally all comes together in the sunlight like THIS… 👌🔥
By heck… it makes every single hour worth it 💚🖤🤍

This isn’t “just stickers”.
It’s design, production, experience, problem solving, and a lot of patience all rolled into one very angry looking rally car 😎🏁

🚨 SDGraphics Availability Update 🚨

Right folks… due to existing contracts, ongoing running jobs, installs, event prep, and the general chaos that is motorsport season… SDGraphics is unfortunately unable to take on any new work at the moment 😅

From Monday onwards, we are out on installs for the next 11 DAYS STRAIGHT 🤯 and then we roll straight into the madness that is the Jim Clark Rally 🏁

At the moment, the first available workshop slots for window tinting or graphics are looking like the second week of June — and even those spaces are VERY limited due to two large-scale event contract jobs running in the background 👀

Unfortunately, Stuart still hasn’t figured out how to clone himself in order to:
✔ Design
✔ Artwork setup
✔ Print
✔ Produce
✔ Install
✔ Answer messages
✔ Drink coffee
…all at the same time 😂

As always, we massively appreciate the support, patience, and understanding while we work through the madness 🙌

Please don't be offended when we tell you that we can not look at / sort your request out until after these jobs mentioned are completed. Quite simply, if we split ourselves any more thinly, we would not be giving the service we want and that our customers expect, and thats not something that we want to do.
