๐Ÿšจ Mega Busy Week......... "Continuing" ๐Ÿšจ

Itโ€™s another slightly chaotic week here at SDGraphics as we head into the run up to the Argyll Rally in Dunoon ๐Ÿ

We are out on installs today and, most likely, a fair chunk of tonight tooโ€ฆ because apparently sleep is optional at this time of year ๐Ÿ˜‚

On Thursday, Stu heads off to catch the early โ€œwater taxiโ€ over to Dunoon to meet up with Aaron and get started on setting up the stages they are running for the rally.

Because of this, between now and Sunday night, emails and calls are unlikely to be answered. Weโ€™re not ignoring anyone โ€” weโ€™re just either up a forestry road (which is slightly concerning as its a tarmac event!), on a ferry, covered in signage, or wondering why we agreed to this again ๐Ÿคฃ

Itโ€™s back to the grind on Monday morning from 6am, and by around 11am we should have some sort of idea what planet weโ€™re on, what day it is, and what the weekโ€™s workload looks like โ˜•๐Ÿ˜‚

Thanks as always for your patience and understanding ๐Ÿงก

๐Ÿ“ข Workshop Update ๐Ÿ“ข

Due to the Selkirk Common Riding taking place this Friday (12/06), we wonโ€™t be in the workshop.

Instead, weโ€™ll be โ€œworking from homeโ€โ€ฆ which basically means emails on the laptop, phone calls diverted to Stuโ€™s mobile, and probably a strong chance of the kettle being overworked โ˜•๐Ÿ˜‚

If you need to get hold of us, please fire over an email where possible, as thatโ€™ll be the easiest and quickest way for us to reply.

Thanks for your understanding โ€” normal workshop chaos will resume after Common Riding! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿงก

๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ Rally People Request ๐Ÿ๐Ÿš—

Is anyone heading up to Crail for the rally this weekend who could possibly help us out? ๐Ÿ™

If so, could you please message the page or contact Stu directly.

Heโ€™s out on installs today, but will have access to WhatsApp throughout the day ๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ”ง

Cheers folks! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ

๐Ÿค–โœจ AI GENERATED ARTWORK / DESIGNS โœจ๐Ÿค–

A wee friendly reminder from your local graphics gremlinsโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ‘น๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ

AI artwork is brilliant. ๐Ÿ‘
Honestly, itโ€™s a fantastic tool for creating visual ideas, concepts, rough directions and those โ€œthis is the kind of thing Iโ€™m thinkingโ€ moments. ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ‘€
It can be a great starting point for a design conversation. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ๐ŸŽจ

BUTโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

At this point in time, AI generated images from ChatGPT and similar platforms are not print-ready artwork. ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ

They are not properly scaled. ๐Ÿ“โŒ
They are not vector files. ๐ŸงฉโŒ
They are not layered production artwork. ๐Ÿ—‚๏ธโŒ
They do not have correct cut paths. โœ‚๏ธโŒ
They do not have proper bleed. ๐ŸฉธโŒ
They are not colour-managed for print. ๐ŸŒˆโŒ
They are not magically ready to fire straight through a printer, plotter or laminator. ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธโš™๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅโŒ

So when someone sends over an AI image and says:

โ€œCan you just print this?โ€ ๐Ÿค”

The answer is usually:

โ€œAyeโ€ฆ but first it needs completely rebuilt.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿซ

Recreating artwork for print is a proper process. ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’ป
It can involve multiple pieces of software, proper file setup, redraws, vector work, colour adjustments, scaling, production knowledge and, most importantly, years of actual experience knowing what will and wonโ€™t work once it leaves the screen. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ

And hereโ€™s the really important bitโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ‘‡

It will never match the AI image exactly. ๐Ÿšซ๐ŸŽฏ

AI can make something that looks cool on a screen, but it doesnโ€™t always make something that physically makes sense, lines up correctly, can be cut, wrapped, fitted, printed cleanly or produced at full size. ๐Ÿš—๐ŸŽจโœ‚๏ธ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿงฑ

So please remember this when sending โ€œdesignsโ€ to graphics companies and expecting them to โ€œjust print itโ€. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜‚

Because obviously itโ€™ll only take a few minutesโ€ฆ

Wonโ€™t it? ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿซฃ

AI is a great idea tool. ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿค–
Print-ready artwork is a skilled job. ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช

Thereโ€™s a big difference between the two. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ”ฅ

โš ๏ธ A polite but very serious reminder about booking slots. โš ๏ธ

When we allocate a booking slot for your vehicle, that time is set aside specifically for you.

It is not โ€œjust an hour in the diaryโ€. ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ

For example, a morning can look something like this:

๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ 5.30am โ€“ 9.30am
Printing jobs before the day starts.

๐Ÿ’ป 8.00am โ€“ 9.30am
Design work running alongside the printers.

๐Ÿš— 9.30am โ€“ 11.00am
Vehicle 1 booked in.

๐Ÿš™ 11.00am โ€“ 12.30pm
Vehicle 2 booked in.

Then the rest of the day is built around those bookings โ€” production, fitting, cutting, plotting, collections, artwork approvals, staff time, and the next jobs already waiting in the queue. ๐Ÿ”„

So when both booked vehicles do not turn up, and no one lets us know, it does not just leave an empty space in the diary.

It throws the whole day out. ๐Ÿคฏ

Today, for example, we had another customer who wanted to sit down and go through design alterations. That had to be pushed back because vehicles were booked into the workshop. ๐Ÿ’ปโœ๏ธ

Now those vehicles are not here, that customer has been delayed unnecessarily โ€” and understandably, they are not happy. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Behind the scenes, it also means production has to be changed around. ๐Ÿงฉ

Jobs that were planned to be cut down have to be moved.
Plotters have to be rescheduled to fit around everything that has changed.
Staff end up standing waiting on work that should have been plotted, cut, prepared, or fitted.
Other customersโ€™ jobs get shuffled about to try and make the best of a bad situation.

It costs us money. ๐Ÿ’ท
It wastes allocated workshop time. โฑ๏ธ
It delays other customers. ๐Ÿšฆ
It affects carefully planned production schedules. ๐Ÿ“‹
And it damages relationships with customers who would have taken that slot and turned up on time. ๐Ÿค

We completely understand that things happen. Vehicles break, work changes, plans move, life gets in the way. ๐Ÿš๐Ÿ’จ

But please โ€” just let us know as early as possible. ๐Ÿ“ฒ

A quick message or phone call gives us a chance to rearrange the day, move another customer forward, adjust production, or make use of the time elsewhere.

No-shows, especially with no contact, really do make things difficult for a small business like ours. ๐Ÿญ

We try our best to be flexible, helpful, and fair with everyone โ€” but that has to work both ways.

Going forward, repeated no-shows or late cancellations may require a deposit before any further booking slots are allocated. โœ…

Thanks for understanding.

Good morning folks ๐Ÿ‘‹โ˜•๏ธ

Just a wee update from us ๐Ÿ“ข

Due to the absolutely mental amount of work we had on over the last few weeks in the lead-up to the Jim Clark Rally weekend ๐Ÿ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ, we most definitely needed yesterday off for a bit of downtime ๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ™Œ

Thatโ€ฆ and it was Ema-Louiseโ€™s birthday ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‚, so we disappeared off to Edinburgh for the afternoon for some child free time, food and a bit of shopping! ๐Ÿ™๏ธ๐Ÿฅณ

Weโ€™re now back in the office ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ and working our way through the mountain of messages, emails and WhatsApps ๐Ÿ“ฉ๐Ÿ“ง๐Ÿ“ฑ

We promise weโ€™ll get back to each and every person as quickly as humanly possible ๐Ÿซก

Yet again, thank you for your patience and understanding during our busy periods ๐Ÿ™โค๏ธ We really do appreciate it.

We are a very, very small team โ€” basically Stu juggling design, print, production and installs ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธโœ‚๏ธ๐Ÿš, with Ema-Louise helping in production between school runs, parenting and generally keeping things together ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ˜‚

Weโ€™ll do our best to get everything back running smoothly by the end of this week โš™๏ธโœ…

Just in time for the madness to start all over again ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Thanks again,
SDGraphics ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’š

Not content with doing 14 hour shifts for the last 7 days straight, we decided the obvious next step wasโ€ฆ

Night installs. ๐ŸŒ™
Because sleep is clearly just a rumour at this point.

Then, just to really test our life choices, we thought:

โ€œDo you know what this week needs? A 36 hour shift.โ€ ๐Ÿ’€โ˜•๏ธ

And here we areโ€ฆ stood at the back of a Peugeot at some ungodly hour, questioning absolutely everything while still somehow loving it ๐Ÿ˜‚

People see the finished car and think:
โ€œThat looks smart.โ€

What they donโ€™t see is:
โ˜• the caffeine intake of a small village
๐Ÿ–ฅ last minute artwork changes
๐Ÿ›  trim, panels, vinyl and mild panic
๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ the moment you forget what day it is
๐Ÿ‘€ staring at badges and body lines like theyโ€™ve personally offended you

Rally cars ehโ€ฆ

Beautiful things.
Absolute nightmares.
The reason weโ€™re tired, skint on sleep, and still daft enough to say:

โ€œAye go on then, weโ€™ll get it done.โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ

Soooooooo much more goes into a rally livery than most people will ever realise ๐Ÿ‘€๐ŸŽจ๐ŸPeople see the finished carโ€ฆThe shiny...

Soooooooo much more goes into a rally livery than most people will ever realise ๐Ÿ‘€๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ

People see the finished carโ€ฆ
The shiny photosโ€ฆ
The โ€œthat looks coolโ€ moment ๐Ÿ”ฅ
What they DONโ€™T see is the ridiculous amount of hours behind the scenes getting it to this stage ๐Ÿ˜…

Designing.
Tweaking.
Moving lines 5mm.
Changing colours.
Re-printing samples.
Standing staring at renderings wondering if itโ€™ll actually flow on the real car ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜‚
Computer renders are brilliant for building conceptsโ€ฆ but they only tell half the story.

You NEED to know the car.
The body lines.
The curves.
The awkward corners.
How the vinyl stretches.
How graphics will flow once itโ€™s physically wrapped around a panel at stupid angles ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

This yearโ€™s design fought us every step of the way ๐Ÿ˜‚

Countless revisions.
Loads of late nights.
Plenty โ€œthat looked better on screenโ€ momentsโ€ฆ

But when it finally all comes together in the sunlight like THISโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ”ฅ
By heckโ€ฆ it makes every single hour worth it ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿค

This isnโ€™t โ€œjust stickersโ€.
Itโ€™s design, production, experience, problem solving, and a lot of patience all rolled into one very angry looking rally car ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ

๐Ÿšจ SDGraphics Availability Update ๐Ÿšจ

Right folksโ€ฆ due to existing contracts, ongoing running jobs, installs, event prep, and the general chaos that is motorsport seasonโ€ฆ SDGraphics is unfortunately unable to take on any new work at the moment ๐Ÿ˜…

From Monday onwards, we are out on installs for the next 11 DAYS STRAIGHT ๐Ÿคฏ and then we roll straight into the madness that is the Jim Clark Rally ๐Ÿ

At the moment, the first available workshop slots for window tinting or graphics are looking like the second week of June โ€” and even those spaces are VERY limited due to two large-scale event contract jobs running in the background ๐Ÿ‘€

Unfortunately, Stuart still hasnโ€™t figured out how to clone himself in order to:
โœ” Design
โœ” Artwork setup
โœ” Print
โœ” Produce
โœ” Install
โœ” Answer messages
โœ” Drink coffee
โ€ฆall at the same time ๐Ÿ˜‚

As always, we massively appreciate the support, patience, and understanding while we work through the madness ๐Ÿ™Œ

Please don't be offended when we tell you that we can not look at / sort your request out until after these jobs mentioned are completed. Quite simply, if we split ourselves any more thinly, we would not be giving the service we want and that our customers expect, and thats not something that we want to do.
