🔥 Sometimes, You’ve Got to Go Old School! 🔥

This Transporter came to us for an emissions-related fix, but it had already been tuned elsewhere and was producing strong results, backed up by a dyno printout. There was no point in replacing a perfectly good tune, so instead, we needed to build on it.

This EDC17CP20 ECU requires boot programming to access the ECU memory, which meant removing the ECU covers and placing a boot pin onto the circuit board, as shown in the pictures.

For newer tuners, this process may seem unfamiliar, but this is how VAG and BMW tuning was done for vehicles newer than 2009. As you can imagine, we were opening up plenty of ECUs before modern advances in tuning software made the process easier.

Once unlocked, we were able to carry out our custom ECU and TCU tuning, with the performance gains measured and verified on our in-house 4WD dyno.

🔥 2022 BMW M135i – Stage 1 + OEM-Style Burbles 🔥

You can see the final result in the video… but getting there wasn't quite as simple as flash and go! 💻

This M135i came in for a Stage 1 remap with some extra OEM-style burbles, but adding burbles properly isn't always straightforward.

Modern ECUs contain hundreds of different calibration settings, and with numerous software versions across the same ECU and vehicle variants, sometimes it takes experience, testing and plenty of tweaking to achieve exactly what the customer wants.

On this occasion, we completed six different software revisions to get the car burbling correctly both while driving and at a standstill. 🔥

Was it a lot of extra work? Absolutely. We even put in a late shift to get it right.

But we reassured our client that we'd keep tweaking the calibration until we achieved the result he wanted — because experience has taught us that sometimes that's exactly what it takes.

From a purely time vs money perspective, putting this many hours into one job doesn't always make sense. But for us, the end result and customer satisfaction are worth the extra effort.

Tuning isn't always straightforward — and that's exactly where experience, knowledge and persistence come into play. 👌
