🤩 CONGRATULATIONS GRACIE 🤩

Gracie smashed her driving test today (in her own car!) with a ridiculous 1 driver fault!. The examiner said it was a wonderful drive 💪 I expect nothing less!

Well done Gracie - this was supposed to happen long before now, but that theory was very annoying wasn’t it 😜 it’s been a pleasure teaching you how to drive!
We also have to acknowledge the many hours and dedication mum has given to make this possible too! I’m sure she’ll be forever grateful that she doesn’t have to do anymore test routes and evening drives around Peterborough.

Stay safe - and see you on the road 🚘 🥳

🚗 Dual Carriageway Confidence – Part 3: Exiting Safely

Leaving a dual carriageway is just as important as joining one.

Here’s how:

🪞 Check your mirrors early.
➡️ Signal left in good time, ideally at the 2nd countdown marker
📍 Move into the left-hand lane well before your exit.
🚫 Avoid braking while still on the dual carriageway if possible.
🐢 Slow down once you’re on the slip road, where it’s designed to help you reduce your speed safely. We can check out speed by looking at the speedometer.

One of the most common mistakes learners make is slowing down too early. Keep a safe speed until you’ve entered the exit slip road, then brake progressively.

Planning ahead makes every exit smoother and safer.

Have you ever found dual carriageways intimidating? What don’t you like about them? Let me know in the comments! 👇

🚗 Dual Carriageway Confidence – Part 2: When Traffic is Joining You

You’re already on the dual carriageway and you notice a slip road ahead. What should you do?

✔️ Keep checking your mirrors.
✔️ Watch for vehicles accelerating down the slip road.
✔️ If it’s safe and clear, consider moving into the outside lane to create space.
✔️ If changing lanes isn’t safe, maintain a steady speed and allow the joining vehicle to adjust to you. However we can also be mindful and use common sense to create a safe gap for them.

❌ Don’t brake suddenly to let someone in.
❌ Don’t swerve into another lane without checking it’s safe.

Good driving is all about planning ahead and staying predictable.

Remember: Be aware, not surprised!

🚗 Dual Carriageway Confidence – Part 1: Joining Safely

Joining a dual carriageway can feel intimidating at first, but with the right technique, it becomes much easier.

Here’s what to remember:

👀 Look well ahead – Check the traffic on the dual carriageway as early as you can.

🪞 Mirrors, Signal, Position – Signal right as you enter the slip road and keep checking your mirrors.

⚡ Build your speed – Use the slip road to accelerate so your speed matches the traffic already on the dual carriageway. Don’t stop unless you absolutely have to.

👁️ Life Saver / Blind spot Check – Before moving across, check your blind spot to make sure it’s safe.

🚘 Merge smoothly – Aim to fit into a safe gap without causing other drivers to brake or change course.

💙 Remember, traffic already on the dual carriageway has priority. Your job is to adjust your speed and merge safely. (Although you would hope other drivers use common sense and move lanes - which doesn’t happen these days!)

Learning to drive is all about building confidence, one step at a time!

😂 Learner Moment of the Week! 😂

One of my pupils spotted a sign today and confidently said…

💬 “Oh… that means no cutting corners, doesn’t it?” 🤣

Just to clear it up…
A No Right Turn sign means exactly that—you must not turn right at that junction.
It has nothing to do with cutting corners 😂 (although we don’t want to do that either!)

One of my favourite things about being a driving instructor is the funny conversations and unexpected moments that happen during lessons. They always brighten up my day!

Don’t worry… we’ve all misunderstood a road sign at some point! 🚗😂

What’s the funniest thing you’ve heard while learning to drive?

🧡 Client Review 🧡

Reading reviews like this reminds me exactly why I love what I do.

“Learning to drive has always been a huge challenge for me. As someone who is neurodivergent, I’d struggled to connect with instructors or feel truly understood behind the wheel. That all changed when I met Laura.

From day one, Laura created a calm, patient, and supportive environment where I could actually enjoy learning. She didn’t just teach me how to drive—she took the time to understand how I learn. She adapted her teaching to suit me, explained everything clearly, and helped me build my confidence every step of the way.

There were times when I doubted myself because of previous experiences, but Laura never doubted me. She noticed when I felt overwhelmed, celebrated every achievement, and always made me believe I was capable.

Because of her patience, encouragement, and genuine care, I passed my driving test first time with only two driver faults.

Laura doesn’t just teach people to drive—she teaches confidence, self-belief, and resilience.

If you’re looking for a driving instructor who is patient, understanding, and supportive—especially if you’re neurodivergent or struggle with anxiety—I honestly couldn’t recommend Laura enough.

Thank you for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. You’ve changed my life in more ways than one.”

Reviews like this mean the world to me. Thank you for trusting me to be part of your journey Chantelle. Seeing pupils grow in confidence and achieve something they once thought was impossible is the most rewarding part of my job.

👀 DON’T FORGET YOUR BLIND SPOTS! 🚗

One of the most common mistakes learners make is relying solely on their mirrors.

Your mirrors show you a lot, but they don’t show you everything.

There are areas around your vehicle known as blind spots where another car, cyclist, motorcyclist, or pedestrian can be hidden from view.

That’s why it’s so important to perform a quick shoulder check before:
✅ Moving off
✅ Changing lanes
✅ Overtaking
✅ Opening your door after parking

A quick glance could be the difference between a safe journey and a serious collision.

Remember: Mirrors first, then blind spots, then move.
