👋 Welcome to Enlighten Driving School!

I thought it was about time I properly introduced myself!

If you’re new here, welcome! My name is Laura and I’m the instructor behind Enlighten Driving School, providing friendly, patient, and professional automatic driving lessons across Peterborough.

I know learning to drive can feel daunting, especially if you’re a nervous beginner or you’ve had a break from lessons. My aim is to create a relaxed, supportive environment where you can learn at your own pace, build confidence, and enjoy the journey to becoming a safe driver.

Whether you’re just starting out, returning to driving after a break, or looking to pass your test in an automatic, I’m here to help every step of the way.

👀 DON’T FORGET YOUR BLIND SPOTS! 🚗

One of the most common mistakes learners make is relying solely on their mirrors.

Your mirrors show you a lot, but they don’t show you everything.

There are areas around your vehicle known as blind spots where another car, cyclist, motorcyclist, or pedestrian can be hidden from view.

That’s why it’s so important to perform a quick shoulder check before:
✅ Moving off
✅ Changing lanes
✅ Overtaking
✅ Opening your door after parking

A quick glance could be the difference between a safe journey and a serious collision.

Ebony passed her driving test today in Peterborough! 1st time, 2 Driver Faults 😍

Ebony it has been a real pleasure to watch your growth. Since the first lessons where you wasn’t sure if driving was for you, to this new found confident person who absolutely smashed her test first time! I have really enjoyed teaching you and it’s been such a pleasure to watch you grow and believe in yourself. I will really miss our lessons but I know you’ll continue to be a safe and careful driver!

Tell dad he can now get his life back and not have to worry about being the other instructor 😜 what a cracking job he has done!

It’s moments like this that make me realise that this is such a rewarding job. The past 6 weeks have been tough for me and I’ve doubted my career, but this has indeed given me the boost I also needed! Well done Ebony 🤩🚘😍

2nd rear end collisions in 3 weeks - why are people not paying attention?!

I am here everyday teaching people how to be safe, responsible and aware road users. Yet everyday we have endless near misses due to the impatience and total neglect of other drivers on the roads. Have people forgotten that they share the roads with people who too have families, loved ones and a life to live?

If you take anything away from this post let it be:

📣 KEEP BACK from learner drivers!
📣 Do not stare right on a roundabout approach, you have to look ahead and right!
📣 just please BE SAFE and think about peoples lives
📣 Stop being so impatient and in a rush, nothing is that important that you cause injuries to others.

Please share as people on the roads here are becoming increasingly aggressive and dangerous!

Philip passed his driving test this morning, on the fine sunny day in Peterborough! It’s been a journey to get here Philip and you’ve had the patience of a saint waiting to retake your test again after a very silly blip first time!

On Thursday my pupil and I were involved in a rear shunt which pushed us onto a very busy roundabout. To be honest the damage doesn’t look half as bad as the impact felt (which was at approx 20MPH) good job I have a solid car! Shame the driver that caused this damage had the cheek to drive off, thankfully their details have been handed over to the police. However what it has highlighted is this is a very high risk job, especially with the drivers on the road today.

No serious injuries thankfully, however whiplash and anxiety is up there, and it makes me question why we try our best to have safe roads when the people around us are just idiotic and quite frankly dangerous. Just please stop tailgating drivers and particularly learners. There are rules for a reason. Safety.

In the UK, the main guideline for keeping a safe distance while driving is called the two-second rule. Here’s how it works and why it matters:

🚗 The Two-Second Rule (on a dry day!)
You should stay at least two seconds behind the vehicle in front of you in normal driving conditions.

How to check it:
Pick a fixed point ahead (like a sign, tree, or bridge).
When the car in front passes it, start counting: “Only a fool breaks the two-second rule.” (this phrase takes about 2 seconds).
If you reach the point before you finish the phrase, you’re too close—slow down slightly.

Remember this applies to a dry day only, make sure you know the rules for rain and ice! The theory you pass would have taught you this.
