First time pass this morning, and what a result! ๐ŸŽ‰Phoebe headed to the Banbury test centre today and came back with her licence after just 4 minors. That is a really composed performance, especially at a test centre that catches plenty of learners out.At Oxon Driving Tuitions, we put a lot of work into making sure learners are genuinely test-ready before the big day, not just confident on familiar roads but calm and consistent under pressure. Well done, Phoebe, so pleased for you.Thinking about starting your lessons? Book your first session here:

The Headington roundabout is one of the trickiest spots on the Oxford driving test.

It's a spiral design, so your lane position actually changes as you go around it.

Right lane in. Follow it to the middle. Follow it to the left. Mirror, signal, exit. No lane changes needed โ€” the road guides you.

We practise this with every learner before their test. Book a lesson and we'll take you through the real test routes.

Scott passed his driving test this morning, first time, with just 2 minors. ๐ŸŽ‰
That is what it is all about. Automatic lessons, consistent effort, and turning up ready on the day.
2 minors is a brilliant result. Driving tests in Oxford are not easy, and Scott handled it really well.

Alexandra passed her driving test today with only 2 minors. Brilliant result!
Getting to test day is one thing. Getting there with that level of control and confidence is something else. Every lesson builds on the last, and today it all came together.
Huge congratulations, Alexandra. The road is yours now.

Know your lanes around Heyford Hill and Littlemore roundabouts, and you're a long way ahead on test day. Approaching Heyford Hill from the Kassam Stadium direction, most learners instinctively head for the right lane. Wrong move. The right lane is for the superstore only. You want the middle lane. Then, as you carry on to Littlemore, the middle lane quietly becomes the left lane at the exit. The road markings are not great here, so if you're not expecting it, it's easy to drift wide. Middle mirror, left mirror, no signal, and stay tight. This is one of those junctions where local knowledge genuinely makes a difference. We cover it properly in lessons, so you're not learning it for the first time on the day of your test. Any questions about your test route? Drop them below or give us a call on 01865 763458.

One of the trickiest Oxford test routes takes you through Cowley
Junction roundabout โ€” twice.
The Cowley Junction Roundabout, Sandy Lane West route starts from the Oxford test centre on James Wolfe Road. It covers Hollow Way, a residential loop, the Eastern Bypass at 50 mph, Sandy Lane West at 20 mph, three back-to-back mini roundabouts in Blackbird Leys, Cuddesdon Way and Horspath Driftway on the way back.
The thing that catches most learners? The sharp left turn back onto Hollow Way from Marshall Road, most people clip the kerb there. And Cowley Junction itself, where your lane needs to be sorted before you arrive, not once you are on it.
We have broken down the full route step by step, including what the examiner is watching for at each section.

If you have a driving test booked in Oxford and you are on the Sandhills to Risinghurst route, this one is for you.

It is one of the more demanding routes from Cowley. You will cover the A40 ring road, a tricky bus lane exit at Collinwood Road, narrow lanes in Quarry Hollow, a stop sign junction with limited visibility, and several speed limit changes you need to spot yourself.

We have put together a full step-by-step guide covering every junction, every hazard, and what your examiner wants to see at each one.

One of the most common questions we get asked is this: how long will it take me to pass?
The honest answer is that it depends on several things. How often you take lessons, whether you do any private practice, whether you choose automatic or manual, and your starting point all play a role.
The national average is around 45 hours of professional instruction. For Oxford learners, local roads and the Cowley test centre routes mean preparation matters more than the number alone.
One of the most common questions we get asked is this: How long will it take me to pass?
