italicar is a small family business, run by brothers Luke and Kirk Miller. Our father managed a successful Alfa Romeo and Fiat main dealership throughout the 80s and 90s, so neither of us grew up wanting to be train-drivers! With the soundtrack of our early years provided by a symphony of Lampredi twin-cams and Busso V6s, we were powerless to escape the obsession. Our family car history reads like

a Top Trumps' pack of Italian automotive history; Alfa Romeo GTAs, 155s, Spiders, GTVs, Fiat 124s, Coupes, Barchettas, a Lancia Delta HF integrale and many, many more. Even if we weren't working with Italian cars for a living, we'd still be buying them! Not all restorations go to plan.

This Lancia Beta Coupe came to us as a "restored" Series II. The owner (a long-standing customer whose Fulvia and Beta Berlina we've also worked on intensively) wanted it converted back to a Series I spec using parts from an earlier shell we'd had to condemn.

Simple enough, right? Swap a few bits of trim over?

Not quite. Turns out the Series I and Series II Beta Coupe are fundamentally different cars. And once we started stripping it down, we found some "home restoration" surprises lurking underneath that meant this became a full nut-and-bolt rebuild.

It's been a proper education in the finer details of Beta Coupe evolution, but the car's looking fantastic for it.

📣For sale: 1977 Alfa Romeo Alfetta 2000 GT

A California-supplied Alfetta GT that spent 41 years in the sun before being imported to the UK in 2018. The result? An underside that looks like it left the Arese factory last week. No rust. No repair patches. Factory spot welds still exactly where Alfa Romeo put them in 1977.

Rosso red over tan leather, Euro-spec with de-Federalised carburettor engine, lightened flywheel and a fully rebuilt gearbox - mechanically sorted from top to bottom by respected classic Alfa specialist Richard Drake. This isn't just a pretty face, it drives as well as it looks.

🔧 Yes, we do modern ones too!

Our feed is usually full of classic Fiats and vintage Alfas, so you'd be forgiven for thinking we only work on cars old enough to vote. But we're just as happy with a modern Abarth 595 on the ramp - and this little pocket rocket was in with us this week for a service.

Same tools, same expertise, same enthusiasm. Whether it's a cam belt on an old-school Lampredi twin-cam or plugs and filters on a current turbocharged Abarth, it's all Italian engineering and we love getting stuck in just as much.

We serviced this Maserati Grecale a couple of weeks back, saving the owner an annoying 100+ mile trip to the nearest main dealer...and saving him no small change in the cost too!

Proves just how busy we are too, forgetting to post something as lovely as this for several weeks. Was absolutely gorgeous.

We treated this car's underside a few years back... and promptly forgot all about it. 😅

It came into the workshop this week, and after a quick dig through the records we remembered that we gave it the full rust protection package. Underside cleaned down and dried, treated, cavities waxed, the lot.

Fast forward to 2026. The underside is still as clean and solid as the day it left us. No flaking, no fresh rot creeping in under the arches, no nasty surprises.

That's what proper rustproofing looks like: cleaned and dried, the right product, into the exact cavities where rust actually starts on these cars. Do it once, do it right - luckily our work lasts a lot longer than our memory of doing it!

📣For sale: 2004 Alfa Romeo Spider 2.0 JTS
🏷️Price: £4,750

❤️ We sold this car in 2018. We've looked after it ever since. Now it's back, and it can be yours to enjoy.

The facelifted Phase 3 is the final and most developed version of Pininfarina's gorgeous 916. Fewer than 2,000 were ever built, around 500 in right-hand drive, and DVLA data suggests under 300 remain on UK roads.

This one's finished in 'Rosso Brunello', a deep metallic red with a gem-like fleck that photographs well but genuinely stuns in the flesh.

Because we've maintained it for its owner for eight years, we know it inside and out. Cam belt (plus water pump and balance belt) done by us under 4k miles ago. Paperwork stretching back to the original bill of sale - and yes, anoraks, it's still wearing its original supplying-dealer plates. Just 800 miles between its last two MoTs, used only for dry-day coast runs, but serviced without fail.

Electric roof works faultlessly. MoT until June 2027. One of the better 916s we've driven recently, ready to jump in and enjoy while this uncommon UK sunshine lasts.
