⚡️ WHAT’S YOUR THOUGHTS ON USED ELECTRIC CARS? ⚡️
We know this one will probably bring out the doom & gloomers 😂 and a few armchair EV experts… but carry on reading, because we’re genuinely interested in what people think!
As a used car dealer, we think it’s going to be fascinating to see how the USED EV market develops over the next few years.
We’ve tried to be a little forward-thinking at NW CARS, so we invested in professional EV battery-testing equipment. This means we can actually test the State of Health of an EV battery and show the customer the result before they buy.
And this is where it gets interesting… 🤔
We’ve recently sold 2 x Vauxhall Corsa-e and 1 x Peugeot e-208, all around 3 years old and all with relatively low mileage (under 20,000 miles)
🔋 Every single one tested at 97% State of Health or better.
In other words, the batteries had retained at least 97% of their measured health despite being around three years old.
And remember, these cars were originally around the £30,000+ mark when new.
We sold ours at around £11,990 and under, all with very low mileage, and great condition!
That is a HUGE amount of depreciation for the first owner 😳…
…but potentially very good value for the second owner!
Would we say everybody should buy an electric car?
Absolutely not.
If you regularly tow a caravan, cover huge motorway mileages or can’t conveniently charge one, an EV might make absolutely no sense for you.
But consider somebody who:
🏡 Has a house/bungalow with a driveway
🔌 Can charge at home
🛒 Mostly drives locally
🚗 Covers perhaps 3,000–5,000 miles a year
👨👩👧 Uses it as a second household car or local runaround
We have LOTS of customers around Norfolk who fit that description.
For somebody like that, a 3-year-old modern EV for around £12,000, with a battery that’s been independently tested and still has the balance of its manufacturer’s battery warranty, starts to look pretty interesting.
No petrol station visits for everyday driving.
Quiet and easy to drive.
Plenty of performance.
And potentially very inexpensive to run if you can charge cheaply at home.
We’re not trying to convince anybody that “EV IS THE FUTURE!” 😂
We sell cars — petrol, diesel, hybrid AND electric — and ultimately we want people in the car that suits their needs.
But based on the EVs we’ve actually bought, tested and sold so far…
we think used EVs could become a VERY interesting part of the used-car market.
So here’s the question…

Or would you still choose petrol/diesel?
