An early start this morning for Predator Marine Limited, with our 15m CTV Windcat 4 safely es**rting the Fugro Orca USV into Lowestoft Harbour ahead of the forecast strong north-easterly winds. 🌊

With deteriorating weather conditions approaching, timing was key to ensuring a safe return to port.

Another successful operation highlighting the versatility of Windcat 4 and our capability to provide dependable marine support for unmanned surface vessels (USVs), offshore survey operations and specialist marine projects.

🚢 IT'S TIME FOR A NAME CHANGE! 🚢

We've decided it's time to give Windcat 4 a new name as she continues her journey with Predator Marine Limited!

But we're struggling to decide what to call her, so we thought we'd throw it open to you lot for some ideas!

A couple of names we're considering are:

⚓ Predator 2 – Keeping it simple and in line with our existing vessel, Predator.

⚓ Apex – Something a little different, strong and distinctive.

Or do we go for something completely different?

We want a name that stands out, suits a hardworking commercial vessel and looks good on the side of her!

After a very busy period working on various commercial marine projects, offshore surveys, wind farm support and other exciting operations around the UK, we're delighted to announce that **PREDATOR IS BACK OFFERING SEA FISHING CHARTERS FROM LOWESTOFT!**

Although Predator has been kept extremely busy with our commercial work, we've certainly missed getting out on the fishing grounds with our regular anglers, meeting new faces and enjoying some fantastic days fishing off the East Anglian coast.

With Predator continuing to undertake commercial marine contracts alongside our fishing trips, **charter dates may be limited**, so we strongly recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

After watching Saving Lives at Sea tonight, it really got me thinking…

A bit of a rant, but I’m sure plenty of commercial boat operators will understand where I’m coming from.

To operate a boat commercially, whether it’s charter fishing, survey work, crew transfer or anything else, we have to jump through endless hoops.

MCA coding, surveys, inspections, safety equipment, servicing, qualifications, medicals, insurance, risk assessments, maintenance, record keeping, drills, regulations… the list goes on.

And rightly so — if we’re taking people to sea commercially, there should be proper standards.

But what can be frustrating is that Joe Public can buy a boat with little or no experience, launch it, head straight out to sea and, sometimes, within hours be calling the RNLI because they’re broken down, taking on water, run aground or completely out of their depth.

Meanwhile, commercial operators are spending thousands of pounds and countless hours proving that our vessels, equipment and crews are safe and competent.

This is absolutely not a criticism of the RNLI — quite the opposite. Those volunteers do an incredible job and regularly put themselves in harm’s way to help others.

But surely there’s an argument for better basic education and minimum competency before somebody takes a substantial powered vessel to sea?

Owning a boat doesn’t automatically mean you know how to operate one safely.

Maybe a little more responsibility before leaving the harbour would mean a few less unnecessary shout-outs for the people who have to come and pick up the pieces. ⚓️

We’re pleased to say that Predator will soon be back offering sea fishing trips from Lowestoft! ⚓️🐟

We’re currently getting everything ready and expect to be back running trips in around 2 weeks’ time. Dates will be confirmed very soon.
