Ritchies Training Centre was established in 1983 by Walter Ritchie, Walter decided the only way to engage high quality drivers was to train them himself. With over 25 years experience in the road haulage industry and operating 35 vehicles performing local and long distance work, he was well aware of the needs of the industry. Since then, PCV, Forklift and construction plant have been added to our

training portfolio, as well as classroom-based courses such as ADR, CPC and DGSA. We provide training in all areas for private individuals, companies, most of the large district councils in Scotland, The MOD and most of the utility companies throughout the country, as well as being a CTP Resettlement Training Centre. As well as our own driving maneuvering area we also have our own “construction site”, used specifically for training on a variety of plant equipment including our 3 Tower Cranes. Over the years the business has expanded rapidly and has included the building of our purpose built training centre opened in December 2001 by The Right Hon Michael Martin MP Speaker of the House of Commons. Located 5 minutes from Glasgow city centre, as well as our recent move to brand new first class accommodation at Firhill Court. You may see Gigha School of Motoring out and about this week. Please do take care and have patience with any of the students.

Students must learn how to handle a vehicle at 15mph and avoid potholes the size of some post Soviet countries.

Also included in the test is hazard perception. They must differentiate between, cows, sheep and tourists.

The theory test covers how breathalysers are not just a "mainland myth".

The test takes place over 1.5 miles of straight road.

WTF do you think it's the 1970's.

🚨 90mph in an HGV?! 🚨😲

Officers from Northamptonshire's Serious Collision Investigation Unit recently reflected on a roadside stop that left even experienced traffic officers speechless... 👮‍♂️🚔

During a joint enforcement operation, a wagon driver initially ignored instructions to stop for DVSA officers. What the driver didn't realise was that two Roads Policing vehicles were only moments away. 🚓💨

A quick change of heart followed, and the vehicle was escorted to the inspection site. 🚛➡️🚔

Once officers from the Roads Policing and Road Crime Teams began their checks, the reasons for avoiding the stop soon became apparent:

❌ Defective speed limiter
❌ Worn tyres
❌ Faulty brakes
❌ Minimal tachograph records

But the most alarming discovery was yet to come... 😳

📈 Tachograph data showed the wagon had previously reached an astonishing 90mph.

For a heavy goods vehicle, that's a terrifying speed and a serious danger to everyone on the road. ⚠️

The vehicle was immediately prohibited and reported. 🚫📋

This stop serves as a stark reminder that vehicle safety checks save lives, and serious defects can have potentially catastrophic consequences. 🚔🛑
