Do you want to build a snowman...??? It would be the ultimate Christmas for most of us, but we can only hope!!!

While snow may seem a bit far fetched(especially for the uk on Christmas day!), I can always hope that all my lovely customer have an amazing Christmas and a Happy New year.

It has been a bit of a crazy one for all of us hasnt it, and at times it has been bloody tough in more ways than one, but having this break is the time to forget all the stress and worries, to enjoy and appreciate the ones we have around us, the ones that keep us all going, the ones that are in our hearts and our memories.

I'd like to raise a glass to all of you 🍻🥂, and take a moment to thank everyone that has supported Ades Auto Repairs over the last year. Your custom is massively appreciated as always.

Thank you.

Ades Auto Repairs is now closed until the 6th January, any messages will be replied to on my return.

Merry Christmas to all, have a awesome break and I will see you in the New Year. 🥂🍻

04/04/2024

Good evening everyone.

Just a little reminder that I am continuing to book between 3 and 4 weeks in advance at the moment. Please try to pre plan any servicing/maintenance/mots so i can get you in before things are due. I appreciate things do and can just break and i will do my best to accommodate this where i can.

With things being so busy, unfortunately I do sometimes find it hard to drop tools and get to the phone every time it rings, but i do have an answer phone, please feel free to leave me a message and i will get back to you as soon as i can, although be aware this may not always the same day. There is lots of things that can happen in the day along with addition work required, so bare with me.

On an additional note, we are all aware that the cost of living etc has taken its toll, prices increasing left, right and centre and the motor trade is no exception. Due to the increase in prices of all the parts, it has unfortunately pushed my turnover (not profit) over the VAT threshold. I have been trying to keep prices as low as i can, i havent altered my labour rate in quite a few years now either to try and keep my prices at a rate that i feel comfortable with, but its been a battle i havent managed to win in regards to VAT. This means that now all invoices are subject to VAT. Its not news that i wanted to have to give, or have to deal with to be honest, its more work as well as more expense not only for myself, but most importantly for all my customers. 😏🤦‍♂️

Thank you for all your continued support and custom. 👍👍👍

TRUST ISSUES...

As the title suggests, I am hardly surprised that some people have trust issues when it comes to the motor trade(any trade for that matter!), the work that is carried out and the prices they are being charged in some cases, but this 1 really boils my blood tbh.

This vehicle had an MOT at a local garage, yep, a garage within the Dereham area! Unfortunately it failed on corrosion and this was the recified and the 'PASSED' its mot, which i wasnt aware of at this point
The vehicle came in to me as the customer wanted to get the front brakes done. Whilst the vehicle was in, the customer requested me to investigate a knocking noise. Upon investigation, i found that the inner steering rack had play in it. Now now this is where the story takes a turn....

The customer was present at the time and informed me that the car was MOTed in November, and asked me if i could see where welding repairs had been done, after its recent failure.
Upon investigation what we found was beyond belief really.. now the garage that done the MOT, also does repairs, so not only do they have a duty of care to test vehicles fairly, but they also know the rules regarding repair procedures, and despite myself not being an mot tester, i have to know the rules surrounding the repairs to make sure customers cars are repaired correctly.

Now the car in question.. if you look through the pictures u will see the following..
Failed - corrosion
Passed - advisory on brake discs (no mention of brake pads, inner rack joint) but more importantly.... it was passed by the MOT tester with an inadequate repair..
Any corrosion repairs need to and have to be welded(fully, not spot/patch welded unless repaired to manufacturers standard).
This car was repaired with.... Fibreglass filler... yep.. thats right... fibreglass!! And you can obviously see it in the pictures. Now just to remind you.. this was an mot centre that repaired and passed this car!!! 😳😳😳😳 The repair was not only repaired with fibreglass, you can see in 1 picture that the inner wheel arch doesnt even meet the repair! So not only wrong materials, inadequately repaired, it wasnt even done to a standard that almost try to hide the bodge, as lets face it, thats what it was!! Now you might say... but Ade.. that was back in November.. well for MOT failures/passes, you can appeal the decision within 3 month on corrosion, which it is still within. The car has also done 68miles...

This car was not failed on the brakes, the pads are virtually down to the metal(minimum required thickness for MOT is 1.5mm), ok they advised the discs, but thats not the point, they missed the pads and the inner rack joint shoupd have been advised as well as it had play.

As a summary.. it failed, then passed with an inadequate repair(which is a failure in itself), didnt have things advised that should have been..

Now i appreciate everyone has bad days, days where things go wrong, days where you are literally 1 snapped bolt away from a 5 minute job becoming a 5 hour one.. but seriously... this one takes the biscuit!
Its blatant disregard for the customer, their safety as well as the garages own responsibilities in which they obviously took advantage off this customer. I have had discussions with the customer with routes they can go, but ultimately, the garage has let not only this customer, their faith in the trade, but also themselves down, for what.... probably a quick bit of cash.

For a non biased MOT garage, i use Weathervane MOT Centre. They do zero repairs, so have zero incentive to pass, or fail your vehicle.

Pick your garages wisely people!!

Hello everyone

I know i dont post very often, mainly because I'm either working, or spending time with my family. Im not a big every day/week social media addict!! But feel this one needs to be shared..

This car came into me for advise, the brake pads were on the metal and grinding, and its clear there is a bigger problem than just the pads having no friction material left!!
The customer was told by another 'garage' that these brake discs can just be cleaned up (most probably with a grinder.. 🤦‍♂️🙄 and most likely due to the discs being a little bit more expensive due to having the wheel bearings being in the disc too) and a new set of pads fitted... job done aparently!!! 👏

Its pretty obvious to anyone that looks at these brake discs can see that they are completely knackered, not only are they corroded beyond belief, but the minimum recommended thickness for these discs is 7mm... the ones removed measured at 4.8mm due to the metal falling off due to corrosion! 😳😳

This is a little warning.. I fully understand that finances are harder to manage at the moment, and its hard to be without your cars for any period of time...... But.... just because someone can do it today and its cheaper than others.. doesnt make it either a good repair, right or most of all... safe!!

Unfortunately i cant fit everyone in the same day, same week, or at times even within the same month. Id honestly rather your car be safe and you get it fixed by a fellow garage if needs be (I'm not the jealous type!)... but please, please... who ever repairs your car, make sure they at least do the job to a decent and safe standard. You may be paying less now, but it will most likely cost you more in the long run.

On a side note, i currently have quite a few big jobs booked for October that have wiped out a day each which has pushed my booking dates further on than usual, due to this I'm currently booking the last week of October, with next to no spaces between now and then, so please pre plan, I'm one person, there is only so much i can do within a day and apologise if i dont always get the the phone or messages straight away.

Stay safe everyone.
