DVSA announce a new style test centre to tackle long waiting lists. The drive-through style test centres will be launched nationwide to fast track learners to their licence.

Candidates will be invited to take their theory test at the first window, and those that pass will be able to pick up an examiner at the second window to take their practical test.

Pass certificates will come in a Ready-to-Pass box complete with 1 of 450 2” examiner figures (due to a typo made when setting up the 7 point plan)

What should I do if I'm at a red light and an emergency vehicle needs to get through?

We get asked this quite a lot so hopefully this explains.

Emergency 'blue light' vehicles have three exemptions in law. Speed limits, red lights and keep left signs.

If we are looking to make progress with blue lights and siren, we are asking you to let us through.

If possible, move over to somewhere safe and allow us past. There's no need to mount kerbs or verges or make sudden moves. We won't come past until we know you have seen us.

If you are at a red light and you can let us through, please do so but we don't want you to go through the red light, moving aside is fine but going through the light isn't. Doing so is an offence and you can be fined or receive points for doing it. Similarly, going through a red light and ending up in a collision could place liability on you.

If we can't make progress we do something called effective non-use. The lights stay on, the siren goes off. This is saying 'I'd like to come through when I can'.

Other helpful things to consider would be not stopping dead in your tracks. Often it's safer to keep going and let us pass in a safe place.

Stopping on a bend, the brow of a hill or directly opposite another vehicle makes it harder to get past too. In these situations it's better that you keep going until the road opens up and we can pass safely when we have a view.

The bottom line is, we don't want you to commit offences to let us through, just make it easier for us to get past if you can.

Borrowed from another Driving Instructor

πŸš— For those pupils who feel that it's unfair if an instructor removes their car for a driving test, please let me explain for those that do not know how driving instructors are monitored -

πŸš— In recent years, the DVSA decided to change the way in which we, as instructors are monitored on our test performances......In presenting a candidate to test, they MUST be at a safe standard for a driving test, to make informed decisions without the help of their instructor and for the examiner to confidently sign the PASS CERTIFICATE.

πŸš— If an instructor has too many FAILS, it can trigger what is known as a Standards Check, whereby a DVSA Enforcement agent (possibly title overkill ) gets to sit in the back of the instructors lesson and score their performance πŸ€” Grade A Grade B or FAIL... Now you may think that this is a good thing, to check on how instructors teach/value for money etc!

πŸš— However, an instructor can be the BEST, with fantastic rapport with their pupils, informative and liveability BUT if they FAIL their Standards Check 3 times, they LOSE their livelihood and their badge removed!!!

πŸš— So, before any of you judge that its harsh of the instructor to refuse the use of their car, if they feel that YOU are not at the acceptable standard to pass...Think again! To you, it's a rearranged driving test but to them - It could be the difference between TEACHING OR NOT!

πŸš— We, any of us do not make the decision out of spite/nastiness or vindictiveness BUT ultimately to KEEP YOU SAFE
πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—πŸš—
