Some vehicles need a bigger truck. π
This 2006 Hummer H1 Alpha has just made the journey home to America, from Dorking in Surrey to Brunswick, Georgia, on our RoRo service.
The Alpha was the final and most advanced H1 ever made. Only around 729 were built, all with a 6.6 litre Duramax V8 diesel and Allison automatic gearbox. At nearly 2 metres wide, it was never going to fit on a standard car transporter, so we arranged a specialist Big Rig to collect it and take it to Southampton.
From there it sailed aboard the Oceanus Highway, secured on an enclosed lower deck, and arrived in Brunswick around 20 days later. Because the H1 was originally built in Indiana by AM General, it cleared US Customs as returning American goods, which makes the import far simpler than for a vehicle built overseas.
The full story, including why RoRo was the right choice for such a big vehicle and what paperwork is needed for the USA, is on our blog. Link in the first comment π
