Bumper Repair Options
If your bumper has been damaged, there are several ways we can get it looking like new again. The best option depends on the type and extent of the damage, but we can work with whichever option you prefer.
We are happy to explain the different choices, the costs involved and what each option includes, so you can decide what works best for you.
1. Corner repair and respray β Cheapest option
If the damage is limited to one corner of the bumper, we can often repair just the damaged area and blend the paint into the surrounding panel. This is usually the most cost-effective option while still giving a very good finish.
2. Full bumper repair and respray
If the damage is more extensive, we can repair the bumper and respray the entire bumper. This gives a uniform finish across the whole panel and is a good option when there are several damaged areas.
3. Remove the bumper for a stronger repair
If the bumper is split, cracked or broken through, we may need to remove it from the vehicle. This allows us to repair the damage from the inside as well as the outside, creating a much stronger and more durable repair.
4. Replace the bumper with a new one
If you prefer to replace the bumper completely, we can also do that.
However, it is important to understand that a replacement bumper is often supplied as a bare, unpainted plastic shell. It normally does not come painted in your vehicle's colour and may not include the other parts that make up the complete bumper.
Depending on the vehicle, parts such as these may need to be transferred from your original bumper or purchased separately:
- Grilles
- Fog lights or fog-light surrounds
- Trims
- Sensors
- Brackets
- Clips and fittings
- Other bumper components
The new bumper will also need to be properly prepared and painted in your vehicle's colour before it can be fitted.
So while a new bumper may initially sound like the easiest option, the actual job can involve the bumper shell, preparation, painting, parts, transferring components and fitting. Once everything is added together, it can sometimes work out considerably more expensive than repairing the original bumper.
The choice is yours
Our job is to give you the options and explain what we recommend based on the damage. There is no pressure to choose one particular option.
If you want the most cost-effective repair, we can look at repairing only the damaged area where possible.
If you want the whole bumper looking fresh and uniform, we can repair it and respray the complete bumper.
If the bumper is badly split or damaged and you want the strongest possible repair, we can remove it and repair it properly from the inside.
And if you would simply prefer a brand-new bumper, we can source and fit one for you and take care of the preparation, painting and fitting of the required parts.
We can do whichever option you prefer. We will explain the differences and give you the cost for each option, so you can choose what suits you best β whether that is keeping the cost down, having the best possible repair, or replacing the bumper completely.
