As snow is falling in parts of the UK today, it's important to remember what Rule 229 of the Highway Code states before you set off on any journey 🌨️:

You MUST be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all your windows ✔️
You MUST ensure that lights are clean and number plates are clearly visible and legible✔️
Make sure the mirrors are clear and the windows are demisted thoroughly ✔️
Remove all snow that might fall off into the path of other road users ✔️
Check your planned route is clear of delays and that no further snowfalls or severe weather are predicted ✔️

Drive safely, and do not travel in severe weather unless your journey is essential ❄️

With half term coming soon many of you will be wanting to take your caravan away with you so a reminder to motorists is timely.

Lots of you have been talking about the lanes you have seen caravans being towed in and their speed on the motorway.

The maximum speed you can tow a caravan on a motorway is 60mph.

Remember this is the maximum speed and not a target. You should always drive at a speed that suits your vehicle and the road and traffic conditions.

The lower speed helps keep a car and caravan stable and safe. Driving faster than this risks jackknifing and the caravan overturning. Rules 98 and 124 of the Highway Code.

And you’re not allowed in the outside lane of a motorway with 3 or more lanes to keep the traffic flowing. It’s in Rule 169 of the Highway Code.

Drive within the limits or you could get a fine and points on your driving licence.

Today the Goverment have made an announcement regarding B+E trailer towing and the law.

We continue to offer training, and recommend that as a responsible car driver, that you do seek some basic training prior to towing. After all, you want to keep you and your family safe don’t you??
