Let's settle this once and for all... 👀

Which one of these winds you up the most?

Tyre Wear Isn't Just About Miles...

Two cars can cover exactly the same mileage and end up with completely different levels of tyre wear.

Why? Because how and where you drive matters just as much as how far.

🌳 Country road driving often means:
• More braking and accelerating
• More cornering
• More gear changes
• Frequent short journeys

🛣️ Motorway driving usually means:
• Steady speeds
• Fewer stops and starts
• Less steering input
• Longer, consistent journeys

That's why a tyre that lasts 30,000 miles on one vehicle might only last 20,000 miles on another.

There isn't a "one size fits all" answer when it comes to tyre life. Driving style, road type, tyre pressures and wheel alignment all play a part.

The best way to maximise tyre life? Keep your pressures correct, have your alignment checked regularly and inspect your tyres every few weeks.

👀 What’s Your Tyre Telling You?

Your tyres can reveal a lot about the condition of your vehicle long before a warning light appears.

➡️ Even Wear
This is what you want to see. It usually means your tyre pressures, wheel alignment and suspension are all working as they should.

➡️ Centre Wear
Often caused by over-inflation. Too much pressure means the middle of the tyre carries most of the load, wearing it out faster.

➡️ Edge Wear
Usually a sign of under-inflation. Low tyre pressures cause the outer edges to do more of the work, reducing tyre life and fuel efficiency.

➡️ One-Sided Wear
A common indicator of poor wheel alignment. Left unchecked, it can dramatically shorten tyre life and affect how your vehicle handles.

The good news? Catching these issues early can save you money and help keep your car safer on the road.

Run-flat tyres are brilliant… when you understand the limits. 👀

Common on BMW, Mercedes, MINI and other premium cars, run-flats use reinforced sidewalls so you can keep moving after a puncture, but only as a temporary solution.

Key things to know:
➡️ Typically max 50mph
➡️ Usually around 50 miles max
➡️ If driven flat, they often can’t be repaired
➡️ Your TPMS warning light matters - you may not physically feel the puncture like you would on a normal tyre

One more thing… not every garage keeps run-flats in stock, especially in less common sizes.

May might be bringing brighter days… but it’s also one of the wettest months of the year. And worn tyres + standing water is a combination you don’t want to mess with.

Aquaplaning happens when your tyres can’t clear water quickly enough, causing the car to literally ride on top of the water instead of gripping the road. That means no proper steering, braking or control. 😬

The scary bit? Tyres can still be legal and yet perform nowhere near as well in heavy rain.

If your tread is getting low, you’ve noticed uneven wear or you just can’t remember the last time you checked them… get in touch.

You can call into the depot for a free check or are mobile vans can come to you at home, work or roadside to fit new tyres.

Don’t wait until the first summer downpour catches you out.
