The outside of a car tells you what it is. The inside tells you who built it. Period Recaro sport seats refinished in leather. Lightweight carpets. Leather door cards. Halogen headlamps, electric windows, Becker CD with door speakers. Modern enough to use every day. Considered enough to use on nothing else. This car has 7,800 miles on it since the build was completed. Not because it’s been preserved — because it’s been enjoyed. There’s a difference, and it matters. We commissioned this GT in 2007. It took the shape of a ‘72, the heart of a ‘964, and the stopping power of something that had no business being fitted to either. It found its custodian a long time ago. Hiltz will too. This car was commissioned in 2007 with a simple premise: take the best of every decade and put it into one 911.

1972 body. Long-hood silhouette. All-steel panels.

The shape that started everything.Beneath it - a fully rebuilt 3.6 Litre 964 engine to original spec, a rebuilt G-50 with new L*D, Bilstein suspension with uprated torsion bars, and Brembo 4-pot brakes on vented discs. Period SSI exhaust. 7 & 8 Fuchs on Pirelli P6000. 7,800 miles since the build was completed. Maintained by Autofarm throughout.

There is a version of this car that could have been built cheaper, faster, and with less consideration at every stage.

We’ve never been interested in building that version.

This is a 1987 Porsche 911 built to a single standard: the one we set for ourselves.

Not to a brief, not to a deadline - to the level Autofarm has held since 1973.

Two films. One colour. One name.

The grey is Schiefer Grau - POR 615. It’s the colour Steve McQueen chose for his 911 in the opening scenes of Le Mans. Quiet, serious, impossible to dismiss.

This build’s name came from somewhere else entirely. In 1963, McQueen played Virgil Hilts in The Great Escape - the Cooler King, the one who never quite stopped trying to get out. The connection to this build has nothing to do with motorcycles and everything to do with character.

We called it Hiltz because it made us laugh, and because it felt right. Those are usually the same thing.

A 1987 Porsche 911 G50. Stripped to bare metal on the Celette jig, rebuilt from the ground up. 3.4 conversion, high-lift cams, all-steel genuine Porsche conversion, Fuchs wheels in period Pirelli rubber.

The interior is Monarch Red leather with houndstooth fabric - drawn from the 1970s, not copied from it. It isn’t finished yet.

But you can already see exactly what it’s going to be. Part three on Friday.
