Booking your driving test? Make sure you’re doing it the right way. ✅

Since 12 May, it has been against the law for anyone but the learner driver to book a driving test. Using unofficial apps, bots or automated tools also breaks the terms and conditions of our booking service.

We've already cancelled 450 tests where tests have been booked outside the new rules – and we're continuing to monitor activity closely. 💪

If misuse of the booking system is identified, we can cancel your booking and suspend your ability to manage your test online.

Our priority is to make the system fair for every learner and to stop you being exploited by third parties. The only way to book and manage a test is through GOV.UK. 💻

🚗 KNOW YOUR SPEED LIMITS – EVERY SIGN TELLS A STORY 🚗

Speed limits are not just numbers on a sign—they are there to protect everyone on our roads.

📍 Common UK Speed Limit Signs:

🔴 20 mph – Usually applies to roads with street lighting in Wales unless signs indicate otherwise. Typically found near schools, residential streets, and areas with high pedestrian activity nationwide

🔴 30 mph – Usually applies to roads with street lighting in England unless signs indicate otherwise.

🔴 40, 50 or 60 mph – Posted where road conditions allow higher speeds but still require caution.

⚪ National Speed Limit Sign (white circle with a black diagonal stripe):
• 60 mph on single carriageways
• 70 mph on dual carriageways and motorways (unless lower limits are posted)

✅ What should you do when you see a speed limit sign?

1️⃣ Observe the sign early.
2️⃣ Check your speedometer.
3️⃣ Adjust your speed smoothly and safely.
4️⃣ Maintain a speed appropriate for the road, traffic, weather and visibility.
5️⃣ Stay alert for further signs indicating a change in the limit.

⚠️ Remember: The speed limit is a maximum, not a target. In rain, fog, heavy traffic, near schools, or where pedestrians and cyclists are present, a lower speed may be the safest choice.

The UK Highway Code reminds all drivers to obey speed limits and drive at a speed that allows them to stop safely within the distance they can see to be clear.

🚨 Important Update for Learner Drivers & Parents 🚨

The DVSA has issued a reminder about unofficial driving test booking apps, websites and social media scams.

Since May 2026, only learner drivers are allowed to book, change, swap or cancel their own driving tests. To help make the system fairer for everyone, learners must:

✅ Only use GOV.UK to book and manage driving tests
✅ Keep their booking details private
✅ Ignore offers from people on social media claiming they can find earlier test dates

Please DO NOT:

❌ Use unofficial apps or websites that search for test slots
❌ Give your driving licence details to anyone else to book a test for you
❌ Purchase test bookings or cancellations through social media

The DVSA has confirmed that if learners are found using unofficial services, they may:

⚠️ Lose access to online test management
⚠️ Have to make future changes by phone only
⚠️ Have their driving test cancelled

Scammers continue to target learner drivers, so please be careful. The safest, most secure and completely free way to manage your driving test is through GOV.UK.

Huge congratulations to Finn on passing his driving test today in Abergavenny with only ONE fault — an amazing achievement! 🚗👏

Now it’s time to enjoy the summer holidays before starting his new job in September. Having a full driving licence to add to his CV will no doubt help him immensely as he follows his career path ahead.

Huge congratulations to Louis Miles on passing his driving test today FIRST TIME with zero faults! 🚗👏

No photo as he’s camera shy… but trust me, he couldn’t have been happier!
What a morning it was too — a lightbulb decided to go minutes before the test 💡😅 but it was changed just in time. Then road closures forced the examiner to switch to Plans B and C… keeping everyone on their toes!

But as they say, all’s well that ends well — and what an ending! Absolutely smashed it.

So proud of you, Louis — safe driving and enjoy the freedom! 🎉🚘

Huge congratulations to Josephine Cobourn on passing her driving test FIRST TIME today! 🎉🚗

She was understandably very nervous going in, but you’d never have known it. The examiner even told her it was a really calm, beautiful drive – what incredible feedback to receive!

This pass is going to make such a difference to her life, having total independence, and giving her mum a well-deserved break – that’s what it’s all about. 💕

Huge congratulations to Louise who passed her driving test FIRST TIME today with a only a couple of driving faults 🚗🎉

She was very nervous (and I won’t lie… those pre-test tears had me nervous for her too 😅), but she absolutely smashed it!

This is my first pass of the year, and what a brilliant way to start the New Year. Passing today will genuinely change her life and open up so many new doors for her.

I am incredibly proud of how she held herself together and proved to herself just what she’s capable of. Well done Lou – you earned this 🥇🚙
