As I’m sure many have heard, there was a devastating fire in Telegraph Cove. On December 31, 2024, part of the historic boardwalk community burned. We want to thank those who reached out to us to make sure we were all right. It is much appreciated.
It was a hectic day for us coordinating with the responding fire departments, RCMP, fire investigators, Town of Port McNeill, and Regional District representatives. We ran our water plant at maximum capacity to keep up with the firefighting demand. Although the fire at Telegraph Cove Resort is technically outside of our water service area, our assistance was crucial. We are grateful no one was injured, and the fire was contained to a small portion of Telegraph Cove. It could have been so much worse. We’d like to extend our gratitude to all the responding fire departments to include the Alert Bay fire boat. The community support of these crews was integral to containing the fire.
Our community has lost iconic history and we are grieving alongside all those who love Telegraph Cove as much as we do.
