To ensure that there is a clear cut, transparent relationship with our customers, here is a basic description of our Dyno and Calibrating services, as well as our pricing.
Our goal is to give you a good grasp of why we charge what we do, along with what is and what is not included.
Solid and accurate principles are the basis on which we have built our calibration knowledge. Using thousands and thousands of hours and vehicles to back us up, we have a very solid grasp on the proper calibration for a given Marque. Dialing in the mapping to produce a solid, safe and powerful car with no compromise in daily drive ability is our ultimate goal. What many people don't realize is there is so much more to an engine tune than just WOT and peak horsepower. If the car is a dedicated drag car that might be okay, but for 99% of car owners it's not. Everything from drive ability, cold start, fuel economy, and even idle quality make any car enjoyable and safe to drive. These areas of tuning are many times overlooked and are actually the most time consuming and difficult to perfect. Tuning is a process which involves complex problem solving. There is never a cookie cutter solution that can be adequately applied to each and every car that comes through the door. Even cars with ordinary or basic modifications get tweaked, poked and prodded until we are absolutely certain that it is running at its highest potential.
So when we book in a client, we want to understand things like
• How the vehicle will be used and driven
• What modifications are done
• What fuel that will be used
When calibrating we use either our DynaPack AWD or Mustang 2WD Dyno to ensure that we can properly Load Cell tune across the rev and load range. Along with our sensors (Boost, MAF Voltage, O2, and Knock) we can safely and accurately calibrate. After we are off the Dyno, we go out and log the car; in every gear and load condition.... thereby ensuring that everything on the Dyno translates in the real world. This way we can fine tune anything that may need to be addressed BEFORE the customer receives the vehicle. Additionally, our Dyno room is fully climate controlled. We can simulate hot and cold climates (to a degree) and use this unique feature to set up various functions, features, and sensors in a controlled environment.
Some of the Things that we modify in a calibration
• Intake cam timing
• Exhaust cam timing
• Rescaling load
• Rescaling other axes as necessary
• Knock sensor sensitivity tuning and adjustment
• Proper scaling of torque related parameters for smooth drive ability From the transmission
• Adjustment of factory presets for fan temperatures
• Idle speed adjustment
• Multiple maps in single tune file (when necessary or requested)
• Throttle mapping to adjust driver input for smooth torque output
• Custom sensor calibration
• Per gear and per throttle boost adjustment to make a fully Manageable torque output throughout the range of the pedal.
• Adjustment of boost limitations to a safe level
• Increase or remove speed limits
• Launch control adjustments
• Rev limiter type and style adjustments
• Engine fault code removal
Before we tune ANY vehicle, it must be subjected to a Standard Pre-Dyno Inspection. We charge $150.00 for this, and it includes:
• Check all fluid levels
• Check Plugs (no older than 5000 km)
• Air Filter
• Boost Leak Test as well as Smoke Test
• Overall Check Over
• All Vacuum Lines and Hoses
There are some things we MAY need to address, for an additional charge.
• Fuel Age + Type
• Oil Change
• Weld in an O2 B**g
• Change Spark Plugs if incorrect or old.
• Air Filter Clean + Oil
** NOTE: If a vehicle has been tuned elsewhere, either by Dyno or via e-tune, we will perform a Leak Down on the Engine. There is no exception. **
As with any vehicle, you may experience mechanical issues during a Dyno tune. These problems range from faulty injectors to improper installation of parts. If the calibrator experiences any of these problems, Lightspeed Innovations will either attempt to correct them while the vehicle is still strapped to the Dyno, or the issue may be severe enough that the vehicle will need to be removed from the Dyno altogether. In either scenario, the vehicle owner will be responsible for any labor necessary for repair.
We are fully versed in almost any engine management available.
