Regarding the future of Falcon Autosport

Hi everyone

For the last year, I've been debating when was the right time to make a few decisions and changes in my life. Put simply; I am becoming a father and I am moving to a place where I actually want my family to live. The future is incompatible with the lifestyle and location I'm choosing in the future.

As of January 1st, 2027, Falcon Autosport will stop organising new events in Ontario after 11 years, and fulfilling all currently organised events and fulfilling all of its obligations. We've even fulfilled our mission statement. What started out as a way for me, as founder, to reduce the cost of safe, well organised track days in Ontario for the community has blossomed into some of the best friendships I could've ever asked for. The community is amazing. I consider everything we accomplished a great success, and have no regrets. I'm proud of the team for always offering high quality photos and experiences. I'm proud of the instructors and flag marshals for always keeping everyone rubber side down and shiny side up. I'm proud of the community for making everyone feel welcome. Everyone involved deserves a standing ovation for 11 years of track days - 11 years of friendly interactions. 11 years of friendship. 11 years of safe, smart, fast driving. 11 years with very few mechanical malfunctions. 11 years of serious improvement in the talent of driver and setup of car. It really feels like a sense of accomplishment to be able to say that. I set out to keep people safe and I soundly accomplished that.

For those of you who want one last hurrah, the final Falcon Autosport event ever (in Ontario, at this time) is October 18th, 2026.

If you have any outstanding credits for events, I would ask that you try to make it to the October 18th event. It would be the last opportunity to use it. Beyond that, the only option is a refund available upon request until Jan. 1st, 2027.

The October 18th track day is rain-or-shine as we've always been.

The reasoning:

1: the primary reason for this decision is the unborn child due in March, 2027. A major chunk of what Falcon Autosport is, is an opportunity for me to grow my CV to lofty heights, to show people who I am and what I'm capable of. I feel like I've checked this box off, but now, the biggest challenge and most important chapter in my life begins. 🤰🚼🧑‍🧑‍🧒

2: a secondary reason is that I'm planning to move fairly far away from the Grand Bend Motorplex team I've worked with so happily for so long. The geographic distance will be a major challenge to work through.

3: a tertiary reason is a change in my financial riskiness and financial risk aversion. Between rising track rental costs, more extreme inclement weather, and the worsening financial situations for most of the public, I feel that future events would slowly squeeze me into offering a worse experience for more money, just to maintain a stable "break even" point or very slight profit margin as I've always aimed to maintain. It should even be mentioned that I also really can't stomach the idea of possibly being a defendant in a lawsuit if anything ever happened. This isn't really something I expect to happen, but, put simply, my risk tolerance has dropped to nearly zero as I'm going to be a dad.

4: I can't completely ignore the smallest of my concerns which is still a concern, albeit very slightly - that I don't want to be even partially responsible for the level of climate change that is currently happening in our world. This is not at all a major force in my decision, but it did come across my mind while I'm listing reasons for my decision.

The future:

I will still be around in the motorsports world, probably as the happiest, proudest father of the youngest, sweetest, most talented racing driver in Canada, using everything I've learned from teaching and instructing to pass it on to the next generation. I am excited for the future but I don't know what it will involve, beyond the new location and the lack of track rentals. I will keep Falcon Autosport ostensibly open but inactive as a public entity, largely working privately on instructing, racing, and maybe having a team for the wain to race under.

May 31st - we're doing something different.

We're riding bicycles on the Don Valley Parkway. Yes. Really. And it's legal. And it's for a great cause.

If you want to join? Spaces are still available on our team.

I wrote a little blurb about why I'm doing it.

I am doing the big Ride for Brain Health because I am a bit terrified of Dementia and Alzheimer's, and really want to find a cure. It isn't a personal concern to me because of someone I know, for example, but rather a fear because I can't imagine the pain or horror of slowly forgetting who the people you love are, or the people who love you, and the pain on the entire family. I think people underestimate the pain on all members of the family.

There's a particular song, "Doing the Right Thing" by Daughter, which I think outlines my fears in beautifully haunting lyrics.

"And in the night, I'll call out for my mother; but she isn't coming back, for me, because she's already gone; and you will not tell me that, because you know it hurts me every time you say it; and you know you were doing the right thing; you must know you were doing the right thing."

I think the pain of reliving the moment you find about the death of a loved one, for the first time, but over and over again, for example, is among the worst kind of pain that exists.

Somewhere in a group chat, someone just said: “Thinking about doing a track day.” And instantly, the replies split into two camps: “Do it, it’s the best thing ever.” “Bro, you’re going to destroy your car.” Both are slightly right. Neither are helpful. So let’s fix that. Because tr...
