2022 Flamboro Speedway Pure Stock Rundown
MILLGROVE, Ontario --- With the 2022 campaign in the books, Flamboro Speedway is getting ready for their next big event, which is the 2021 / 2022 Banquet. Held at the Rockton Agricultural Society @ the Rockton Fairgrounds (812 Old Highway 8, Rockton, ON L0R 1X0) on Saturday January 28, the event will celebrate the accomplishments of Flamboro Speedway’s drivers from both the 2021 season and 2022 season.
The night will feature laughs, jokes, award presentations, and a dinner beginning at 5:30 pm sharp with cocktails at 4pm. Those looking to attend the event are welcome to contact John Casale at 905-659-3042 to purchase your tickets.
As we prepare for the banquet, let’s take a glance back at the success our drivers have had the past two seasons in each of our divisions, with the Pure Stocks featured this time around.
7. Alex Stewart
Despite a rocky season at times, Alex Stewart was able to put together some moments for the highlight reel. There was certainly some adversity faced with issues taking him out of contention at times, but he scored 18 top-10’s through the year, including seven consecutive. However, the night everybody will remember is June 18 when he led flag-to-flag in the feature to score his first career feature victory. He then snagged another checkered flag on July 30.
6. Chance Rogers
Taking a “chance” was a good idea for Chance Rogers, as he proved to get faster as the season went on at Flamboro Speedway. He had his fair share of rocky moments through the year, but that did not slow him down from scoring 20 top-10 finishes, including a runner-up on July 30.
5. Moises Ruiz
Even flipping on his lid late in the season did not slow Moises Ruiz down, as he was able to run up front throughout the year with 20 top-10 finishes. Although he was rarely inside the top-five, consistency was the name of the game in his rookie campaign that featured a best finish of third on July 23.
4. Leo Labarbera / Rodney Rutherford
When you have a couple past division champions and so-called veterans team up, you know the checkered flag should wave in their favor. It wasn’t the year that Leo Labarbera was looking for by any doubt, with only three top-five finishes to his favor to go with 20 top-10 performances. However, you never seen him without a smile as he had fun all season. Rodney Rutherford only jumped in the car for two features, placing seventh and fifth in those races.
3. Cameron Thomson
Cameron Thomson had become known around Flamboro Speedway for waving flags the past couple years, but he added another title to his resume – driver. For being one of the rookies on-track this year, there were weeks that you’d never be able to tell that fact. He scored his first victory on June 11, and from there, backed it up with six more to score the most victories of all drivers in 2022.
2. Kyle Lucas
Being a championship contender the past couple years, Kyle Lucas is learning what it takes to become part of the conversation. That’s why he scored no finishes worth than 10th all season, with 19 top-five’s. He also got to enjoy a couple checkered flags, with a pair of feature victories over the year.
1. Reece Bourgeois
If you know the full story of Reece Bourgeois’ career, then you understand just how special it is to watch her become a champion this season. It’s been a story of rising from adversity after seeing her first year in racing feature a significant crash, which was set to derail the dreams right then there. It’s a good thing it did not, after watching her score just one finish outside of the top-10 in 2022, including three victories within the first couple weeks of competition. After establishing herself at the top of the standings, she was the master of consistency throughout to boost an average finish of 4.5357 to secure the championship.
Other Numbers To Think About:
• 1.5 is the best feature average feature finish of all drivers, set by Gary Slama, across four races
• 4.5357 is the best average feature finish of drivers to run more than 20 races, set by Reece Bourgeois
• 7 feature wins for Cameron Thomson led all drivers
• 8 drivers had a feature average finish of fifth or better
• 11 or more feature top-five’s were scored by Lucas, Bourgeois, Thomson, Gillian Hils, and Eric Stewart
• 14 different drivers won a feature
• 19 feature top-five’s for Lucas led all drivers
• 22 drivers had a feature average finish of 10th or better
• 27 drivers scored a feature top-five finish
• 31 feature top-10’s for Bourgeois and Lucas led all drivers
• 32 features were ran in 2022
• 34 drivers scored a feature top-10 finish
• 48 different competitors ran at least one feature
