🚛 PRE-TRIP INSPECTIONS: A MUST FOR BOTH AZ & DZ DRIVERS IN ONTARIO

One of the most important parts of becoming a professional driver starts before the truck even moves.

For both AZ and DZ commercial drivers in Ontario, a valid daily inspection must generally be completed within the previous 24 hours before the vehicle is operated — and the driver must continue monitoring the vehicle throughout the trip.

This is not just about passing a road test.
It’s about safety, responsibility, and professionalism.

A proper pre-trip inspection helps drivers identify issues before they become dangerous problems on the road. That means checking key components such as:

✅ Tires and wheels
✅ Lights and reflectors
✅ Steering and suspension
✅ Brakes and air brake systems (if equipped)
✅ Mirrors and glass
✅ Driver controls
✅ Fuel and exhaust systems
✅ Emergency equipment
✅ Cargo securement
✅ Overall vehicle condition

These inspections are critical because they help identify minor defects that must be recorded and reported, and major defects that make the vehicle unsafe and illegal to operate until repaired.

🚛 Thinking about driving a vehicle with air brakes? You’ll need your Z Endorsement.

Many people believe the Z Endorsement (Air Brake Endorsement) is only for commercial truck drivers—but that’s not the case.

If you plan to drive a vehicle equipped with an air brake system, including many diesel motorhomes (RVs), buses, and commercial vehicles, Ontario requires you to have a Z Endorsement on your driver’s licence.
