Docking a vessel in a graving dock is an impressive combination of engineering, physics and precision. Think of it as a car lift for ships.

Before a vessel enters, its exact position and support are carefully planned. Once inside the dry dock and aligned, the dock gate is sealed.

Unlike more dry docks, our Port Weller site using gravity to do the work of moving water – making is one of the greenest dry docks in Canada.

Once a vessel that was floating - now sitting completely dry, giving our teams access to everything normally hidden below the waterline.

And when the work is finished? We run the process in reverse.

Just water, engineering and a whole lot of precision.

Sometimes, the most important thing a team can do under pressure is slow down.

Our Emergency Response Team put that principle into practice during a confined space rescue training scenario.

It required the team to assess the scene, verify conditions, make patient contact and respond to a potential head, neck and spinal injury, all while preparing for a controlled extraction from a challenging space.

Every step mattered. Every move deliberate.

Training like this builds more than technical capability. It builds the confidence, discipline and trust teams need to make the right decisions when the pressure is real.

Collaboration at its best.
As we continue to grow our partnership with Mohawk College, it’s not simply to recruit talent, but to help shape it.
Together, we’re developing training that reflects the realities of today’s shipbuilding and ship repair industry. By combining Mohawk’s educational expertise with the experience of Ontario Shipyards’ subject matter experts, we’re helping create learning that is practical, relevant, and directly connected to the needs of industry.

Marine concepts are being introduced into existing trades programs, giving future welders, millwrights and electricians early exposure to careers they may never have otherwise considered.

Because building Canada’s marine capability starts long before someone walks through our gates. It starts by inspiring the next generation to see what’s possible.

We’re not just building ships.
We’re helping build the people who will build Canada’s marine future.

A $215M investment in shipbuilding, including support through the “Protect Ontario” plan, is a strong signal for Ontario’s future.

We’re already seeing that momentum, with funding helping strengthen our capabilities, workforce, and readiness to contribute to Canada’s domestic shipbuilding capacity.
