Are you confident in your processes?
Why should technicians maintain current training in vehicle construction, and can the industry afford to rely on outdated repair standards?
I-CAR Australia has consistently trained technicians to high standards to support safe, high-quality repairs for the customers who return these vehicles to the road with their families.
The primary objective when repairing collision-damaged vehicles is to restore the deceleration characteristics engineered into the structure. An incorrect repair—such as overheated welds, lack of fusion, excessive fusion that cause fractures in the steel’s metallurgical structure, or the repair of crush zones that should be treated as sacrificial components—can compromise the vehicle’s crash performance.
Airbags (SRS) are triggered by deceleration data from onboard sensors. If any part of the repair is incorrect, the vehicle’s structural response in a subsequent collision may change those readings. Airbag deployment occurs within milliseconds, and even small variations can affect whether occupants contact the airbag during the correct deployment phase. The consequences can be severe.
The image below illustrates this risk clearly.
