• (bonus feature) Parkit360 electric trailer dolly — absolutely unreal! If you have a tricky driveway or shed setup, we highly recommend it. 🦾

Great result from the single-engine test! 💪

38 knots top speed! 🚤

The Yamaha V6 certainly has some grunt. It jumped out of the hole with no hesitation and was up to 38 knots in no time—that’s seriously impressive for a single engine.

Tests like this are so important. Knowing that if you ever come unstuck offshore you still have this level of performance and usability on one engine is a real confidence booster.

When this Contender 28T first arrived at Boat Monster, it had a fairly basic setup-a great blank canvas to build from.

Michael Bonnici and Sondal Bensan had one goal: create a boat capable of tackling some of the most remote fishing destinations imaginable. That meant a huge amount of planning, preparation, and innovation. In fact, there’s hardly anything on this boat that we haven’t upgraded or customised!

With over 700 litres of fuel capacity, plus additional fuel bladders, this Contender is ready for multi-day trips out on the Barrier Reef. As long as you don’t mind sleeping on the deck!

The short version of what we did:

Power & Performance
* Replaced the Yamaha F200s with Yamaha F300s featuring DEC (Digital Electronic Control).
* New steering ram and hydraulic lines.
* An easy 50-knot top speed on 19-pitch props.
* Cruising speed comfortably 30-40knots when fully loaded.
* Even on a single engine, it’ll still reach 38 knots—a serious upgrade in both performance and redundancy.

Simrad Electronics
A complete top-spec Simrad electronics package was installed, including:
* Upgraded from twin 16-inch MFDs to a massive NSO 24-inch MFD.
* NAC-2 autopilot system.
* SS175HW and SS175M through-hull transducers powered by the S5100 sounder module.
* Simrad IP camera with built-in infrared to monitor the bilge—a very cool addition.
* GS25 GPS.
* Simrad RECON electric trolling motor.

Console Reconfiguration
The rear of the console was completely redesigned, and it’s incredible what we’ve managed to fit inside:
* 2 start batteries.
* 36V lithium battery system.
* 50L fridge/freezer.
* 12V pie oven.
* Starlink.
* Shore power system.
* Every type of charger you could think of.

Projects like this are exactly why we love what we do. Turning a solid platform into a purpose-built offshore weapon is incredibly rewarding, and the end result speaks for itself.

Zak has been super excited to get his Haines Hunter 17L back on the water 🤩
