New MV Triton in recently for the full Dobinsons treatment. Set up with IMS front and rear shock absorbers, lifted comfort front coil springs and 250KG constant load rear springs. Dobinsons provides a full solution for these vehicles including upgraded greaseable rear shackles and a billet aluminium tail shaft spacer kit. A load assist airbag kit has also been fitted to the rear. This combination gives the best of both worlds, on road comfort with the ability to load up when towing the caravan. Our customer has reported improved ride quality and handling with no need to fit aftermarket front upper control arms to achieve a perfect wheel alignment. Next on the list is to add Yokohama G018’s.

This Ford Fairmont with a stroked 351 in for a service and repairs. This vehicle is new to the customer, so he brought it to us to make sure everything was right before hitting the road. We gave it a full inspection, replaced the engine and driveline fluids, carried out adjustments to the carburettor and replaced hard to find parts including hand brake cables, original style headlamps, horns and steering components with Rare Spares parts available through the Repco network. We also made the vehicle safer by making some minor changes and adding some heat protection to transmission cooler hoses.

This week's Job Spotlight!

The customer is making preparations for a big trip towing his caravan where he will be tackling the Gibb River Road. The vehicle is already setup with aftermarket suspension and Bendix Ultimate 4WD Disc brake rotors front and rear among other accessories. As a first step we carried out the full 160,000k logbook service using Valvoline oils and Ryco filters as outlined in the Toyota handbook with additional works including front brake pad replacement, front brake disc machining and brake calliper clean and slide pin lubrication. We also carried out an automatic transmission service including fluid and filter replacement.

During the previous service we found that the intercooler had developed a crack and was starting to leak (common on 200 series land cruisers). Concerned that this minor leak would worsen during the trip it was recommended to the customer to replace the intercooler and the map sensor filter which is also prone to cracking and is hidden below the intercooler. Leaking intercooler and map sensor filter can both contribute to poor performance or even pre mature turbo failure through boost leaks and poor signal to the map sensor. When replacing an intercooler there is always the option of going with another genuine intercooler or taking the opportunity to upgrade. Not wanting to modify the vehicle to extensively a direct replacement Plazmaman unit was chosen, this will increase the cooling performance and is also a much more robust unit which will not experience the same failure as the OE unit. We also upgraded the map sensor filter from the plastic genuine article to the laser welded stainless steel version available from PDI. Both of these upgrades are Australian made and designed.



As further preparation for the dusty conditions and potential water crossings our customer will experience during the trip we fitted a tried and tested Safari V-Spec snorkel & Ryco’s new A5001R air filter element a flame retardant, water resistant and cleanable filter with more filter media than OE which improves the airboxes seal and rigidity.
