10 years ago I finished this model. So much extra work went into the conversion to make it what it is. Given my decline in bench time over the last year and a half I can’t even imagine doing anything like this again…

Two big events that I am trading at this weekend in Brisbane. I will have most of my store stock at both events and hope to catch up with a few of you there!

I often get the opportunity to try out new tools and when Dspiae reached out to me and announced their new brand GEE Hobby, I quickly jumped on the range and ordered all of the brands first releases for my store. I was sent some samples as part of the order and thought I’d unbox and try out their Hobby Vise.

The Vise comes in a nicely presented and very sturdy box, with the tool in machined stainless steel and aluminium with a white ceramic feel base. It includes 6 metal pegs and silicone covers that fit into the top of the vise for additional grip. It also comes with something you never thought you would need but do now, being an injection molded 1/3 scale model of the vise and a dice that you can store the model in!. The rest of the range also come with these replicas and an additional ‘toy’. This small distraction/oddity aside, the vise is a very capable tool and worthwhile addition to the modelling bench.

The vise easily fits and holds a jar of of Tamiya paint with expansion for larger items and the knurled k**b on the base of the tool allows free movement up to 90 degrees down. The heavy base makes this tool very sturdy and reliable and at its extreme extension has almost zero play. One jaw of the vise has precisely machined grooves in the horizontal and vertical allowing round shapes such as rod and bar to be held firmly whilst being worked on. The base of the vise has a small magnetic storage area for the 6 metal pins to keep them safe when not being used. The base measures 80mm x 80mm and advertised weight is 360 Grams which was right on what my scales said it was.

Overall, I am extremely impressed with the vise, and can see it being a ‘regular’ amongst my modelling tool collection. The rest of the range looks to be very promising and I will review them when time permits.

The range is available through my online store here: https://www.manscalemodels.com.au/shop/gee-hobby/L2BTQTRCAJMEAGAPNAX73TB3?page=1&limit=30&sort_by=price&sort_order=desc&location_id=LB4YM2VKA1RQ8

Some new tools have dropped at Manscale Models! GEE Hobby are a sub brand of Dspiae and I was eager to get their first releases being the Vise, Sandpaper Set and parts detacher. Also in the new releases, are some Carbon Fiber Sanding Sticks and Replacement Sandpaper packs that compliment the Sandpaper Set. I got these as part of a big restock of Dspiae ahead of two events that I am trading at, at the end of this month in Brisbane. Along with everything else I also received some new Dspiae tools with some new bit holder handles and straight edge scribing bits.

The GEE Hobby stuff looks and feels awesome and is the same high quality as Dspiae. They also have some cool injection moulded goodies that come with each tool.

All the new releases and much more available from here:

An interesting development from Dspiae with the release of a new offshoot brand GEE HOBBY. If you like cool tools then these will certainly impress. I will have all 3 of these new releases in stock today as I ordered them for my store as soon as they were available. The new vise looks really interesting.

I have just received another shipment of ANYZ products at Manscale Models HQ. Not only is this a restock of resin parts, decals, braided line and tools but it includes one of the finest tools I have ever had the chance to handle being the Super Precision Curved Tweezers. I normally stock their straight tweezers which sell very well but these curved ones are something else! Very useful for handling microscopic detail parts and they are extremely high quality.

I have also received some cool ANYZ promotional stickers and door hang cards which I will include with any purchase of ANYZ Stuff.

I just received a new shipment of the Dspiae Orbit Electric Drills and associated accessories. These have been extremely popular and the red ones sold out within a day of getting them in my last batch. They are battery operated, rechargeable drills that operate at 240 RPM, reversable and are designed to fit 3.175mm bits (like the commonly available tungsten drill bits) although they work a bit better with the Dspiae 'spin lock' drill bits as they feature a locking mechanism that will prevent them from slipping. Also available is a screwdriver set that includes an assortment of 20 very fine phillips/flat/torx bits that fits the drill as well.

A bit of a diversion away from aircraft models over the last week or so as I got stuck into the DDA 1/24 VL Calais car kit. I was hoping to just chuck this together and throw it into the display cabinet but saw a few things that needed some work, plus I wanted an Auto version.

The kit grille was solid white plastic whereas the real car was clear. I designed a new grille and printed it in clear resin, makes a huge difference to the iconic front end of this car. While I was there I made up the LE grille as I had a few requests for those.

I then designed a new shifter to make the car into an Auto, and the kit didn’t come with rear headrests which were standard equipment in Calais models, so I made those as well. Much better!

I have made a small production run of these parts which are available through my website Manscalemodels.com.au
