We recently had Thrifty bring his tough as commodore Ute in again. Thrifty has long been apart of the Hendry performance family when we put his 427 LS stroker together for him a few years ago. With a bit of a mad panic right before Rocky Nats he had an engine noise. We stripped down to find one of his lifters had completely failed. After a quick chat on best plan of attack at short notice he decided to give me some free rain and grind up one of my own grind custom camshafts and replace the lifters with a top shelf set of crower hippos. We pieced the engine back together and back in and hit the rollers in record time. Making more HP and more Torque everywhere. Can’t wait to see what he can do at the track now on time slips. Thanks for trusting me with a new plan and combo mate and glad your enjoying your beast out on the street again mate. Great power at the wheel for a naturally aspirated LS3 stroker with LS7 heads our custom Hendry performance camshaft and all the good bolt on supporting mods.
Another one out of the Hendry Performance Stable was Perry’s Holden VC Commodore. I first met Perry about 6 years ago when he came and seen me about an engine he had built by another shop that had failed very early in its life and wanted to know if anything was salvageable. He had one of the first come racing holden blocks with a very sad hole in the side of it. We threw pretty much everything out and told him to start again. So the block became a coffee table. Then he popped in about 12 months ago and said I’ve finally found an original standard bore VT Roller block. Can we use it to build a new 383 stroker. And it began. We slowly pieced it all together then about 6 months ago the car got dropped off and we started to get her all completed and back in the engine bay. Using his original Come Racing heads and the rest was pretty much all new. After a lot of years tearing up Moranbah the beast is back and now living with Perry back down in Brisbane. Thanks for letting us build your beast back up mate. Now sporting a fresh Hendry Performance built 383 and all new wiring from front to rear with all new accessories throughout. Enjoy the new combo mate.

We recently had KC from new pioneer motors bring the HK Monaro rally car in for a tune before it makes its way down south for an upcoming rally. When it come in fuel was literally pouring out the exhaust we stripped and cleaned carby. Re jetted and re set timing and gained an extra 104hp at the wheels from where it started. Awesome power for a 1968 model rally car with a naturally aspirated 350 small block.
Since posting the latest update and story on Zarbys 416 Stroker Harrop blown combo we have had a few requests to see how she sounded with the new Mayzey built exhaust. Facebook originally wouldn’t let me upload photos and videos on same post so for everyone asking here’s a video of it running and what better way to hear the new exhaust than a video on the dyno. Well with the hot weather about all done and some cooler nights at present we took advantage of the cool nights and recent rain to get Zarbys VE SS back for some more tuning and dyno to get a few decent runs with some lower intake temps to see what sort of numbers the beast would run. We built a few months ago a new combo for Zarby. LS3 416 stroker with all the good bits. Callie’s dragon slayer. Compstar rods JE Pistons custom with pin upgrades etc. HPE custom grind cam and Harrop 2650 with LSA drive and new 110mm throttle body. We also did a wheel and HSV brake upgrade. Harrop Tru Track. Fuel system upgrade E85 and the list goes on. A lot of help and people to thank on this build. Firstly Harrop Engineering for all there help supplying us the new 110mm throttle body to couple up with the Harrop 2650 and LSA drive set up. Mayzey for coming back up to build us another killer exhaust system. Jesse Messer for working so hard making everything neat and tidy when it was going back in the engine bay. He’s been a key help since coming on board to help out. Daniel Leppien for killing it on another killer tune. My engines are only as good as the tune at the end with Leppy nailing this one again. There’s more still to come as we suffered from a heap of wheel spin on the rollers. So we will now finish this combo off on the hub dyno. And lastly a massive thanks to Clayton Zarb for trusting us to build your dream combo after such a terrible experience with the last shops effort.
One of the many cars we had to set up for Rocky Nats was Casey’s tough little HZ in for a full tune new distributor. New carby. New alternator and few other little odd jobs to carry out before Rocky Nats. A great clean street car that turns heads. Thanks for bringing it in for us to tidy up for you mate.
Another recent one we are behind on posting is Dan’s VF Clubby LSA build. Another long term one due to how hectic busy we always have been. Dan’s had suffered from detonation from a previous tune elsewhere and clean broke the top ring lands out of 3 Pistons. We stripped engine and had machined with all new Forged Pistons Compstar Conrod upgrade and all the supporting mods. We also added our own custom ground camshaft and CNC heads on this combo aswell with all the fruit throughout. We have also upgraded the injectors as the ones in it were being pushed way to much for the power it was previously making. Leppy has left the tune and rev limiter so far very low and soft as the fuel pump is yet to be upgraded and I’m pretty sure Dan is keen on replacing the standard LSA blower with a 2650 so keep your eyes peeled for this one with a lot more to come from it yet with fuel pump 2650 and E85 on its way. Thanks for trusting us with your pride and joy mate and being so patient throughout the whole build. Another good lad added to our Hendry Performance Family. I honestly do love my job coming to work everyday and helping people build there dreams. So lucky to have learnt and built the knowledge to build these combos everyday. Another massive thanks to our whole Hendry Performance’s Team again on this one. Jesse had the engine bay dialed as neat as putting everything back in and Leppy nailed another tune spot on again.

Apologies on lack of content lately but even with a full crew of staff on board now it’s still been just as busy. So I’ve been a little slack on the updates. A few bigger jobs I’ll be posting shortly but had a heap of exhaust and OTR enquiries lately a nice easy mod that can be done and matched with the right tune will see gains of 50 to 60 rear wheel horsepower from standard. Robert being one of the recents to jump on board for a nice little exhaust and OTR and tune upgrade in his VE SS Ute. Made a great increase and completely changed the car. We are punching out the jobs here again the boys are rolling through the work. First time in ever we have been fully staffed I’ve always tried doing nearly everything myself due to not having the right trained guys on board. But we now have Jesse and Darren back full time 2 of the best most professional guys I’ve worked with and Teesh keeping on top of everything in the office. Which has given me the chance to spend a lot more time in the engine room and organisational rolls keeping the buisness rolling in the right direction. With the service and repair work now getting bigger each week with the reduced wait times means engine building time frames and performance work also has lowered our wait times. We are family owned and ran with what I believe is the best most professional and trained team in town. We can’t thank you all for the ongoing support and keep that word of mouth spreading around to help us grow even larger and help each and everyone of you even more. A big couple of weeks just had with more still to come. Just a few of the last week below.
We recently had this gorgeous new Camaro in for a camshaft upgrade and full exhaust on the new LT1 engine. These definitely aren’t as easy to complete a cam upgrade on the regular LS engine. The engine bay is completely full on these things. And in some ways probably easier to pull the engine to do a cam upgrade. But with these being our bread and butter as part of the LS family. It turned out great. Another one travelling all the way from Yeppoon to trust us with there pride and joy.
Hey Guys. Wondering if anyone might have a transfer case laying around from a Landcruiser. Either a HF1A transfer from any of the VDJ series with 19 spline input or even a HF2A from an 80 series. We doing an LS conversion into an earlier model that we can’t get conversion for to the commodore 6L80 trans. So need one of the 2 transfer cases above to suit the conversion. Cash ready to go if anyone local has one in good condition.
Well it’s a New Year and we firing back into gear again on all new builds. With the help of Jesse now on board aswell we had a really good end to the year and cleared out a lot of long term project builds. Now only a few remaining from last year then it’s all new projects for the year. We been so busy we never managed to keep you all up to date towards the end of the year. But here’s another one we missed. Luke’s near brand new HSV GTSR unfortunately Luke had a cam package fitted from near new from another shop and they had installed only single row valve springs for a cam well past the lift height the springs could handle. Resulting in a dropped valve and destroyed engine. Devistating on such a new high dollar car. The previous shop were good enough to help out with some costs but he had decided the car was to be built by us this time and completely rebuild and forged internals. So new conrods forged pistons the lot all buttoned up and back in the car tearing up the streets again. Hell yeah that’s an Xmas win for me the new model camaro cam gear arrived from America and cam phaser kit is in. And phaser all still in one piece. These things are so dam delicate on the phaser plate and spring. I hate these new LT engines already lol. We were spoilt with how easy cam kits are in commodores compared to the new model camaro with the LT engines. Boxing Day spent working lol
As a few of you are aware over the last 12 months or so we have been doing a heap of R&D on the new Hemi Engines. Mostly on Teesh’s Jeep but Frank recently hit us up for a Harrop Package on his Ram 1500 with the 5.7ltr Hemi. Which allowed us to play a lot more on the tuning side of these things etc than we have previously. We fitted up a Harrop 2650 Supercharger Kit and Harrop Full Exhaust System Extactors and Twin 3” System and the results were awesome. With 226hp standard and 457NM of Torque we ended up with 333HP and 679NM of torque on 6 pound boost. It’s made a big truck a hell of a lot faster and a monster to tow with now. A massive thanks to Frank for trusting us with your pride and joy. A big thanks to Harrop as always and a huge thank you to Jason at VCM who went above and beyond with helping out with ECU unlocking being a new 2020 we ended up having to send back to America for unlocking and Jason watched and tracked it the whole way to speed it up anyway he could for us and most of all a big thanks to Jesse in the workshop putting in the hard yards with the fitting of this set up mate. Another happy customer and another project done before Xmas.
Merry Christmas to all our wonderful customers who have continued to support us. I look back to 6 years ago when I was still working out west and building the occasional race engine from home to then have a small space sharing a workshop to what I’ve achieved now. And it’s entirely thanks to each and everyone of our valued customers. We haven’t come from money we aren’t rich and I’ve built what we have from the ground up. My beautiful fiancée continues to work for us and support me every single day completely for free working as many hours as me some days. 2020 has been a bloody hard and stressful one but we have still built some bad arse engines and unfortunately missed out on finishing a couple of ones we hoped to due to a hold up on parts from America. But none the less we have really kicked some goals this year. I feel like we are bettering ourselves every year and being able to help our customers more and more each and every year. So from the bottom of my heart I thank you all so much each and every one of you. From myself Teesh Chad and Harlow aswell as our little girl due to join the team in early March we wish you all a very merry Xmas and look forward to seeing and helping you all again in the new year. Just a few of this years builds attached for some reference.
We are now really starting to get excited about the upcoming Rocky Nats. Now we are all locked in and so many of our customers are looking to enter or have entered we are getting pumped. To think we have built so many engines over the last 6 years in our mackay shop and this is only a handful of the ones entered without a single engine failure touch wood. Makes me super proud of the dedication I put into ensuring every single build is perfect the worst we have had has been Jim Walters torching a head gasket from fuel system failure. And now we are currently seeing on average 6 cars a month make the trip up from Rocky for us to do all there upgrades so it’ll be awesome to be able to come down and enjoy a beer and catch up with all our Rocky customers away from the workshop at what’s going to be a damn good few days. Here’s just a few of our customers entries. As I’m not sure who else is going at present. Without all our valued customers and great staff like Leticia and Jesse and Leppy on the laptop I’d seriously be lost. To the boys from Rocky I’m above great full that so many of you are all now making the trip north and that your all so happy with the work we produce up here. Can’t wait to see you all in April.
