π¨ THIS IS WHY WE CLAY BAR YOUR PAINT! π¨
Ever washed your car and thought the paint felt clean, only to run your hand over it and feel tiny bumps, roughness or grit? π
Thatβs where clay bar decontamination comes in.
A normal wash removes dirt and grime sitting on top of your paint, but it doesn't always remove embedded contaminants such as:
πΉ Industrial fallout
πΉ Brake dust
πΉ Road grime
πΉ Tree sap
πΉ Overspray
πΉ Tar and other bonded contaminants
The photo shows what can come off one vehicle after washing β all of that contamination was bonded to the paint just on 2 panels and couldn't simply be washed away!
So why do we clay bar before polishing or ceramic coating?
When we're carrying out paint correction or preparing a vehicle for ceramic coating, we want the paint as clean, smooth and contaminant-free as possible.
Claying, paired with chemical decontamination removes bonded contamination and gives us a much cleaner surface to work with. This helps our polishing process work more effectively and, when coating, allows the coating to bond to the paint rather than contaminants.
Does every car need to be clay barred?
No β and that's important.
At Luxe Detailers, we don't automatically clay every vehicle just because it's part of a package.
We assess the paint first. If the vehicle is already smooth and free of significant bonded contamination, there may be little benefit in claying it. If we can feel contamination after the wash, we'll recommend the appropriate level of decontamination.
It's about doing what the vehicle actually needs, rather than adding unnecessary steps.
Whether you're looking for a maintenance detail, paint correction or ceramic coating, proper preparation is a huge part of getting the best possible result. π
