One of the last bigger jobs of the end of the year. Sam has owned his XW for quite a long time. Has always been a well driven street bruiser. However brakes were in a serious need of attention, with front and rear brake upgrades for us to install.

Upgrading the front is quiet an easy process for us. However the rear being a 'modified' aussie 9inch disc brake rear end there was some things that we discovered upon dissemble that needed a different plan of attack to get the result we wanted.

A Few 'quirks' with axles required us to source some replacement units to get our kit to bolt on correctly. Upgrading to the later model arrangement along with a set of custom hand brake cables to suit the car, and the addition of a vacuum tank for support. The Falcon certainly stops to say the least now.

Hopefully many more years of enjoyment ahead. Thanks again Sam.

Kevin's 2005 Monaro with a simple bolt on upgrade.
Kevin was able to source the last of these entire Harrop brake upgrade kits from Hol-Mart.

Doing away with the what essentially a mismatch of components already on the car. This kit simply bolted on without any fuss.

Graham has owned his 1964.5 Mustang for quite sometime, and has meticulously maintained it himself.
His choice to switch over to disc brake rear was one more out of convenience than anything else.
Because the Mustang is still driven fairly often, the up keep on maintaining adjustment on the drums especially isn't as easy as it used to be for Graham. So it definitely made sense to move forward to a disc conversion with a modern internal drum handbrake. We also fitted one of our dual diaphragm boosters to improve the pedal effort for more regular use.

This particular rear kit arrangement is a little different to our 'normal' small bearing arrangement, this is utilizing a 287mm diameter rotor and earlier AU1 rear calipers. We did this to keep bias/proportion between front to rear, as the original Kelsey Hayes 4 Pistons are still happy and working well on the front.
Along with a set of custom handbrake cables made to suit to finish things off, all in all a great result.

Happy Motoring Graham.

Some resto work that we carried out on some original HSV Harrop Calipers for Rob recently.

Sandblasted, stripped and reassembled with new pistons and seals. Completely refinished in 'Sting Red', front faces polished back to show off the logo again, and cleared over.
Along with DBA 4000 series Cross Drilled & Slotted Rotors, Street Performance Pads and new braided hoses bundled together to finish off the brake update for his VY SS Ute.

PBR M Series Brakes have become some what a unicorn in terms of an upgrade, and definitely under the radar. Limited quantities of these, particular the rears, were made in the grand scheme of things.

Adrian came to us wanting to fit them to his VZ SS Commodore station wagon.
Over the years, along with Peter Konings involvement with PBR upgrades thru those times, we have built our knowledge base up well enough to understand what we needed to do to make things work.
With new bracketry drawn up and made to suit for the front and rear, working with catalogues to marry these up to more readily accessible replacement rotors was our only hurdle for us get it across the line. Along with pads and hardware sorted, to finish things off we made new braided hoses to suit as well.

The result :
6 piston fronts, paired with 350mm 5000 series 2 piece DBA Rotors and the 4 piston radial mounted rears resting on 343mm 4000 series DBA Rotors.

These calipers were also seen on Z06 Corvettes briefly as an upgrade before the transition/shift to Brembo upgrades became a thing. We are exploring the potential availability of these front calipers 'new' to offer them on selected options for our commodores upgrades 2026. The rear calipers from the same corvette, whilst use the same caliper by eye, did not utilize the same mounting system. So we will look to dive into them a little deeper to see if we can retro fit to models we work with.

Something about a Torana Hatchback with flares and big tire will just never get old.

Next we had Darren's Orange beast in to address some of the pedal feel under brakes. We started by updated things to a re-freshed pair of PBR calipers, TRW brakes pads, along with some new DBA Slotted rotors and fresh bearings.
Whilst we were in there we relocated the factory prop valve to tidy the engine bay up, and plumbed in a aeroflow vacuum pump to help keep things happy.

Been a little bit of time since our last Facebook share. As we begin to wind down jobs and orders for 2025 before our end of year break. The first of a few of the recent 'fit here' job that have gone out in recent months.

Michael's VR SS Commodore upgrading to VT Brakes, using powdercoated red with black cradles, and DBA Cross Drilled & Slotted 4000 series rotors coupled with Street Series brake pads.

Rod brought us his VZ Crewman Cross 8 to upgrade the brakes, these cars have been somewhat overlooked, as they are overshadowed slightly by the HSV Version with the Avalanche and its PBR C5 brake combo, this was accommodated with bigger wheels.

In this scenario the main objective was to keep the 17" wheel size in order to retain the factory towing capacity. We managed to squeeze in a 329mm disc with a twin piston caliper. Important to note the increase in rotor size is the largest gain to improve the braking performance, whilst the caliper we do utilize our tried and true AU2/3 this was to aid with bracketry and even more importantly clear the inner of the 17" wheel.

We also took the opportunity to look at essentially mimicking the HSV Avalanche brakes with our stock of C5 Corvette calipers. Particularly for those with larger wheels and horsepower goals in mind. We can now offer a C5 arrangement with a 340mm diameter rotor.

If you'd like more info & pricing on any of these kits for your AWD Adventura or Crewman feel free to contact us via enquiries @ hoppers.com.au

Kevin's SLR5000 LX Torana from Phillip Island, in recently for a rear disc brake conversion.

Ditching the drums for some cross drilled and slotted DBA rotors, in Torana Stud pattern, installed along with new commodore rear brake calipers and handbrake assemblies, new caliper hoses, and new handbrake cables to suit. We did have to accommodate centering rings for the small diameter 'Torana' axle nose for the rotor to sit correctly. But otherwise another fairly straight forward bolt on process in house for us.

Always nice to see a tastefully built LX Torana, particularly out the front under our sign written green torana on the building.😎

Many Thanks Kevin,
