BREAKTHROUGHS AND BREAKDOWNS MARK FOURTH ROUND OF KART CHAMPIONSHIP
The fourth round of the Penrite Australian Kart Championship presented a range of emotions as some new winners emerged while a points leader almost failed to finish.
KZ2 hosted the emergence of Queenstown, New Zealand’s Nathan Crang who top qualified and finished the final in fourth, however Toby Dvorak was the eventual winner, maintaining his championship slot in third, while West Aussie Dylan Guest made his first AKC appearance for 2026 to finish 2nd.
Luca Auriemma inherited a third-place finish after Jay Coul received a drop-down penalty and subsequently regained his championship lead over Coul by just two points.
KA2 belonged to Townsville’s Jack Larsen with a breakthrough win over series leader Cooper Folley who bounced back from qualifying 14th to finish 2nd in the final and retain his series lead, while Corey Carson claimed an impressive third.
X30 provided the biggest upset, with championship leader Jace Matthews finishing 6th and reigning champion Brodie Whitmore retiring mid-race, leaving Braxton Regan to claim a maiden X30 win ahead of Jacob Dowson.
The tight finish was costly for Lewis Cordato who crossed the line the highest of any of the top five in the championship hunt, however a five second penalty dropped him to 10th, making way for Dominic Mercuri to claim the final podium spot.
Lenzokart’s Kiahn Burt finally broke through for his first official Tag125 AKC win to close the gap on series leader and TonyKart campaigner Harrison Hoey to just eight points. Hoey finished an impressive 2nd after starting from 6th with Dallas Greene claiming 3rd, while Praga’s Ryan Uhlmann advanced from 8th to 4th.
Arrow driver Zach Findlay had taken over the KA3 Senior championship lead coming into the finals, however, he was barely able to finish after losing power and falling back through the field to be caught up in a late race incident, while Benito Montalbano worked his way from 6th on the grid to finish 3rd and win back the championship lead, finishing behind breakthrough winner Zac Heard and JND Parolin campaigner Toby Spinks.
KA3 Junior was all Archie Bristow, winning all four heats and his final, dislodging EKS pilot Jensen Damaschino for the series lead by just four points after Damaschino finished 7th in the final. Ollie Williamson finished 2nd to bring him within 10 points of the series lead while Josh Williams’ finished 3rd.
Hudson Petta has led the Cadet 12 championship since round one, and despite finishing fifth at Seymour, still has a healthy lead. Meanwhile Rossi Yau not only claimed his first AKC podium but his first win after a masterful race that beat home a hard charging Alana Gurney by just 0.076 seconds ahead of Milan Sami close behind.
The race of the day may well have been Cadet 9, that featured a lead-swapping frenzy between Emerson Mills and Max Gosling before Harry Lack arrived on the scene to make a challenge after working from 11th on the grid in just four laps.
Max Gosling would win the battle however over JND teammate Lack ahead of Emerson Mills, with Gosling retaining his championship lead over Mills, albeit by just five points.
All eight championship classes will go down to the wire at Bolivar in South Australia on October 16-18.
