A simple concept, a nice set and some tasty animations.
Oh, and some sound design to bring it all together.

Nice to work on this project for ShopBack.

A lot has changed at Abe’s in 27 years! CDRs have gone, the fax machine is gathering dust, our invoicing has been digitised, audio quality improved, the cloud arrived, and now AI is here.

But the things that have helped build Abe’s haven’t changed much at all. We only captured them a few years ago, but on reflection, they've been in our DNA forever. Chase Creativity, Build Relationships and Live Generously.

These three core values have influenced how we work with clients, how we treat each other, how we solve problems and how we think about what comes next.

Thinking of starting a podcast? Finding your niche is crucial.

Good insight from Claire Murphy in Audio Academy, a collab between radioinfo and Abe's Audio.

Zaleta build bespoke, luxury homes on the Sunshine Coast. We were asked to compose a music package that captured their brand and made people feel 'at home'.

That's what's great about music - it can so easily evoke emotion.

One of our favourite projects.

Failure is OK (although it doesn't feel like it at the time!)

Around 2010, I thought I saw a need for outsourced copywriting at scale, and went all in developing a workflow system to handle briefs and scripts. This was long before vibe coding - it cost thousands!

ScriptFactory was a great idea in my head - but it was far too complicated for account executives to use. (I also found that outsourced copywriting is also very hard to scale well.)

It was a solution for a problem that didn't really exist for our clients, so we quietly retired it a few years after launch and refocussed our attention on audio. Sticking to our knitting of being a premium producer of great audio, delivered fast, and at scale.

Script Factory was an expensive failure - but I think the key is to keep trying things. When you get knocked down, you get up again.

Anyone remember dial-up internet? In the early 2000s, we had to save ads as small MP3 files so we could email them through Outlook Express. (112 kbps MP3, anyone?) Then we’d unplug the fax, connect to the internet and wait about five minutes for a single ad to send - and hope the connection wouldn't drop!

The tech has really changed since those days, but the reason we use it hasn’t. Speed matters to our clients, so if we can remove 10 minutes from a process, eliminate unnecessary steps, or use tech to free our people up for work only people can do, we’re all in.

We keep reminding my team that behind every call, email, and job is a person with their own stresses and challenges. At Abe’s, leveraging technology has always been about finding better ways to serve that person.

Super blurry photo - this may have been taken on a potato 📸

Fantastic to have our whole team in Tassie last weekend for an early Christmas party and to celebrate 10 years of service for our much-loved Rebekah Repacholi.

As our Head of Talent and one of our OG Production Coordinators, Bek is such a valued member of our team.

We love you, Bek - here’s to another 10!

Lots has changed in 27 years of Abe’s Audio. When we started, six months of our work could be archived on a single CDR. Today, we’d fill it in a day!

But one thing that hasn’t changed is the need to move at the speed of our clients. In the early days, we had to find ways to record, produce and deliver ads fast. Today the tech is completely different, but clients’ expectations haven’t changed. They want great work, quickly, with no friction.

On reflection, we learnt pretty early that just ‘keeping up’ isn’t enough. You need to understand where your clients are heading and what they’re likely to expect next, then start working on it before they ask.

For example, when we started offering remote directed voiceover sessions using Skype, it was unheard of, and we copped some flak. But now, directed sessions are a core pillar of our business (and are popular with agencies and creatives.)

While it can be hard to block out the noise, innovating and finding better ways to do things often means not listening to the naysayers.

Now, anyone got a blank CD?

Yamaha has made quality musical instruments for years. (My first keyboard was a Yamaha!) So when we were asked to compose a brand music track for them, it felt like a deja vu moment.
