And we wish it was that easy! 😂
When we plug a diagnostic scan tool into your vehicle, it can give us **information and point us in a direction** — but it doesn’t simply pop up and say:
👉 *“Replace this part and she’ll be right.”*
A fault code is a **clue, not a diagnosis.**
Modern vehicles have increasingly complex electrical, mechanical and computer-controlled systems. One fault can have several possible causes, which means proper testing is needed before we start replacing anything.
That’s why Pure Automotive charges a **diagnostic fee**.
🛠️ **TOOLING**
We have thousands of dollars invested in diagnostic and testing equipment — plus the ongoing cost of keeping that equipment, software and information up to date.
🧠 **TRAINING**
Cars aren't getting any simpler. We continually invest time and money into training so we can understand new systems, technology and testing procedures.
🤝 **NETWORKING**
Nobody can realistically know everything about every make, model and system. We’re fortunate to have a great network of knowledgeable people within the automotive industry that we can reach out to when needed.
⏱️ **TIME**
Most importantly, proper diagnosis takes time. We need to test, interpret the results and work through the possibilities to determine **what has actually failed — and why.**
Because we'd much rather charge you for proper diagnostic testing than start throwing parts at your car and hope one fixes it.
Replacing hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of parts **isn't diagnosing a problem.**

That’s what the diagnostic fee pays for — the **time, tooling, training and knowledge** required to give you an informed answer and help avoid unnecessary repairs.
