Perry's Garage by Adam & Kylie Perry, building street driven elite quality vehicles.

After spending many years building our own personal cars & helping mates with their Street Machines we have decided to start up a small business taking on automotive fabrication works. We don’t plan for this to replace our full time jobs but to enable us to build further cars and share our passion and experience with others to help them create their elite level street machines. We operate out of our home workshop with the ability to take on minor works right through to complete builds.

The Nomad is teaching us the difference between "bolt-on" and "make it fit."

We couldn't save the original tail lamps or fin moulds, so a new set was ordered.

That should have been the easy part... but before long, the tools were out and we were tweaking the body to suit the reproduction parts.

This Nomad has had a few knocks over the years and the fins were pretty beaten up, but they're starting to take shape now. A bit of time spent here will make all the difference when it comes to the final fit and finish.

It's coming together.

Continuing with the theme of saving as many original parts as possible, we've sent the first batch of chrome parts away to have the 70-year-old plating stripped.

The liftgate and rear bumper will need a bit of repair work and fine-tuning to get the fit just right, but overall they're in pretty good shape.

Still a much better starting point than reproduction parts, and it's nice to keep a few more original pieces on the Nomad.

Major milestone for the Nomad reached, we have finished the rust work.

Like the doors, these fenders were also in pretty good nick with minimal rust or previous repairs.

It’s exciting to see the classic Nomad shape coming back together.

Now the fun work begins!

The timeline of Kylie getting her new car...

10:24am – Smile for the obligatory new car photo.

12:11pm – Decide the paint finish could be better and get straight to work:

🚗 Mothers Microfibre Twist Drying Towels
🚗 Mothers Professional Heavy Duty Rubbing Compound
🚗 Mothers Foam Pad Polish

4:26pm – First coat of Mothers Ceramic Spray Wax applied for a deep gloss and long-lasting protection.

Don't worry, she's still just as excited about the new car. She simply couldn't live with knowing the paint could look better than it did when it left the dealership.

It still amazes us how much depth the Mothers Ceramic Spray Wax adds to the finish. The shine is unreal, and the protection is just an added bonus.

Thanks to Mothers Polish Australia for keeping our cars (and trailer) looking their best, even when they're brand new!

Thanks to Craig at Choice Signs for sorting out the signwriting on the new Perry's trailer.

To be honest, our brief was pretty vague, but Craig absolutely nailed the design and brought it all together better than we could have imagined.

We're pretty wrapped with how it turned out and it's great to finally have the new trailer looking the part.

Now we just need to finish a car so we've got an excuse to hit the show circuit again.

It’s amazing what some people hide with filler.

This front valance panel off the Nomad didn’t look too bad before blasting, but once the deep filler was removed the panel clearly needed a repair.

With the repair done, the panel can now be reused and final shaped to match the joining parts.

I really wish people wouldn't hack holes in panels...

These Nomad doors are in pretty remarkable condition for something that's almost 70 years old. Very little rust and only a few minor repairs needed. Most of the time spent on them was actually patching up old speaker holes that had been cut into the doors at some stage of their life.
We know nobody would ever see those repairs once the doors are assembled, but we'd know they were there... so they had to be fixed.

It's been a long time since we've had Tail Spin out in its full display setup. In fact, only one other time in the last six years!

We're pretty grateful that Kylie labelled and documented everything so thoroughly when the display was originally built. Even then, it still took around 3 hours to set up and another 2 hours to pack it all away.

Back when we were regularly showing Tail Spin, we never really ventured too far inland, so it was great to see so many first-time reactions to the car. Seeing people genuinely excited about the concept and hearing their comments reminded us why we built it in the first place.

To top off a great weekend, we were lucky enough to come home with Top Undercarriage and a Top 5 spot amongst some incredibly high-quality builds.

The question is... has it reignited the passion to compete with Tail Spin again?

Just when we thought we were ready for the weekend, Tail Spin had one last surprise for us... the battery packed it in only a few days before the show.
Thankfully, the team at ODYSSEY Batteries stepped up and had a replacement on its way to us overnight.
Out with the Optima, in with the Odyssey, and we're running again.
Huge thanks to the Odyssey team for getting us out of a bind and keeping our weekend plans on track.
