We came into this year’s Bathurst 6 Hour determined to push harder than ever and see what our MK8 Golf R was truly capable of.
Qualified 4th in class.
2:28.0 lap around Mount Panorama. The fastest ever by a VW Golf production car.
Car was on pace.
Drivers were outstanding. Cem and Iain delivered all weekend. Fast, consistent, and completely composed when it mattered.
Strategy was strong.
We were tracking toward a class podium until a tyre failure halfway through the race set us back. Still recoverable.
Then another tyre failure under the safety car. That one hurt. It completely derailed our strategy.
With 5 minutes to go, the car suddenly died. Sitting there thinking it was over… and then somehow, it came back to life.
We crossed the line 14th overall.
Post race review handed us and a number of other teams a 15 lap penalty, dropping us back to 44th.
It stings.
But we finished a six hour endurance race in our MK8 Golf R. We are pretty confident we are the first team in the world to do it.
