1954 Ford Y Block.
Congratulations to Sam from Sydney for correctly identifying our latest 1954 EBU casting Y Block engine build! One of our T shirts is on the way…
Here’s a few progress pics as we go through and start the assembly.
Once we have the block back from machining we then go through and dummy everything up. Bearing clearances are checked, bottom of the cylinder walls chamfered and excessive casting flash is removed.
We also smooth out as many oil passages as we can reach in order to improve lubrication.
Oil galley plugs are removed and a final high pressure wash with warm soapy water cleans everything out so we can apply ceramic primer.
Our customer chose to go with the original and correct shade of Ford factory red paint and looks very nice on the deep skirted block.
The custom Racetec forged pistons look like perfect little jewels and come with a modern 1.5, 1.5 & 3mm ring pack.
Rings are file to fit from Total Seal with moly top rings and napier 2nd’s. Expanders have been modified to sit loosley in the bore.
Rotating assembly has been weight matched and balanced.
Our Comp Cams custom grind mechanical camshaft is installed after the lifters are in place as you must install the lifters first due to their mushroomed shaped head.
Getting to this stage of the build has really been an international effort and is much appreciated by all those involved including Galloway Engineering, Brent Lykins Motorsports in Kentucky, Mummert Racing in California & various others from Australia & New Zealand.
Enjoy👍😎
