The Balnarring Picnic Racing Club is a non profit organisation committed to promoting picnic racing as an enjoyable and family orientated activity

Set in a scenic coast, yet rural environment, the Balnarring Picnic Racing Club provides the opportunity for all to experience ‘the fun of the races’. Visit the mounting yard as the horses are paraded, and from track side, cheer your favourite home as

the horses race around the track. Enjoy a leisurely picnic among the trees, throw out a rug on the lush lawns under an old gumtree; however you wish to enjoy your day out at the races, Balnarring has got it all.

You don’t need to leave the Peninsula to be part of Champions Day.

On 7 November, gather at Balnarring for live picnic racing and share one of the biggest days on the Australian racing calendar with fellow racing fans and the local community.

The place has changed a little. The reason for gathering hasn’t.

Racing began here in 1863, when the club was known as the Hastings and Balnarring Racing Club — and remarkably, the first meeting was held on the same site used today.

More than 160 years later, Balnarring is still bringing people together around horses, racing and community.

That’s a tradition worth sharing.

Bring the family, pack the picnic and find your place among the trees.

A day at Balnarring can be as simple as settling onto the grass, watching the horses and enjoying an afternoon together. There’s a playground, kids’ rides and face painting to help keep younger racegoers entertained too.

Balnarring has always been built around community, and our volunteers are a big part of what keeps that tradition going.

On Saturday 7 November, Champions Day comes together with live picnic racing at Balnarring — giving racing fans the chance to follow the day’s big moments while enjoying the horses, people and atmosphere right here on the Peninsula.

🏇 The wait is over… our 2026/27 race dates are here!

We’re excited to officially announce the Balnarring Picnic Racing Club’s 2026/27 season, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back trackside from Saturday 7 November for our traditional Champs Day season opener.

📅 One important change this season: Balnarring Cup Day will now be held on Sunday 24 January – moving from the traditional Australia Day date to the weekend prior, giving more people the chance to experience one of our biggest and best race days.

With six fantastic meetings, great country racing, live entertainment, BYO food and drink options, and plenty of family fun, there’s something for everyone this season.

🎟️ Tickets, marquees and hospitality packages are now available online.
Secure your spot early – our packages on major race days regularly sell out.
