Throttle bodies

Exhaust Manifolds

The exhaust system is responsible for quickly removing hot exhaust gasses from your engine. We are able to modify existing components to assist with this - helping to free up extra engine performance.

Exhaust manifold Porting (gas flowing)

Noticeable power gains are achievable by smoothing the internals (where practically possible) and removing any weld over-spray within the exhaust manifold - particularly manifolds fitted to turbo charged engines. Any overlap to the runners caused by the fixing plate is removed and smoothed. Particular attention is paid to the area around the turbo fixing plate (where appropriate) as this can increase turbo spool-up time and maximum rpm.

Inlet Manifolds porting (Gas flowing)

The inlet manifold is responsible for introducing air into the cylinder head from the throttle body, avoiding hot surfaces which can heat the air leading to reduced engine efficiency.

Good gains to low and mid-range power can be made by boring, re-profiling and smoothing, the internals of the inlet manifold – particularly with turbocharged and high-output engines. Engines fitted a badly designed inlet manifold can be improved almost beyond recognition.

Where practically possible, we remove marks left from the casting process from the inlet runners, leaving smooth surfaces with minimal obstruction to the flow of air. Where part of a runner forms a link between the injector boss and the head, the inside is ‘ribbed’, to allow for better fuel/air atomisation and to effectively make the runner an extension of the inlet port.

The throttle body bore is smoothed and bellmouthed to assist with air flow, particularly to runners that would otherwise draw less air flow and consequently run leaner (thus helping balancing the power across the cylinders - similar to how individual throttle bodies operate).

All units are thoroughly cleaned and degreased.

Cylinder Head Porting (Gas flowing)

Your cylinder head(s) are responsible for allowing both the air/fuel mixture to enter the engine and hot exhaust gasses escape the engine. This is generally achieved via valves which open and close in accordance with the properties of your camshafts.

We work the inlet and outlet passages to enable better engine 'breathing', helping to generate additional engine power though better efficiency - particularly with older engines. In addition we check for cracks, defects and re-grind valves to ensure your head is ready to fit. The only work not included in our prices is remedial engineering work deemed necessary by our engineers - typically replacing snapped studs or damaged valve seats. This work is only undertaken with your prior consent.

Throttle Body porting (Gas flowing)

The throttle body is responsible for allowing air to be sucked into your inlet manifold from your air filter via a butterfly valve, the position of which determines how much air is allowed though. We bore, grind and (highly) polish throttle bodies to ensure that there are minimal obstructions to the passage of air though them. Good improvements to engine pick-up can be made by working your throttle body, which is a very cost-effective way of removing flat spots, improving driving enjoyment and improving engine performance.

Our standard specification:

•Inlet ground and bell-mouthed for maximum air intake speed. Casting marks removed.
•Boring marks smoothed into body for unobstructed air flow.
•All machine work and butterfly plate highly polished.
•Low-profile screws fitted to butterfly plate. •Butterfly adjusted to horizontal position to allow more air to flow when fully open. •Chemically cleaned and lubricated with mating surface prepared for fitting.

We do not 'half' spindles like other suppliers of similar throttle bodies - something that frequently causes the spindle to snap (causing extensive engine damage). However, we can knife-edge the leading edge of the butterfly for race applications where a fast idle speed is not a concern.
