I'm pleased to announce that the 2nd Annual Road Safety Conference (ARSACO 2025) will be held on Thursday, 4th December 2025, under the theme "Overcoming the Challenges of Effective Post-Crash Response in Zimbabwe."
Delayed and inadequate emergency response continues to contribute to high mortality rates following road traffic crashes in Zimbabwe. ARSACO 2025 will bring together stakeholders to develop actionable recommendations for strengthening our post-crash response systems.
This conference aligns with the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety, which aims to halve road fatalities and injuries globally by 2030. Road traffic accidents claim approximately 1.2 million lives annually—two lives every minute—making them the leading cause of death among children and young people worldwide. While not classified as a pandemic by the WHO, some health organisations recognise this as a "silent epidemic" demanding urgent attention.
I call upon all stakeholders to join us in combating this silent epidemic in Zimbabwe and beyond. The fight begins at the personal and family level. Since most accidents result from human error, we have the power to change this trajectory—and we can win this battle.
