Morning All,
Hope this finds you well and all getting excited for Friday (or Thursday if you’re coming up early)!!
Here’s a few bits of info...
Meet Friday at Westgate main car park 8.30 to leave at 9am.
Scheduled stops:
i) D**e Lay Bye
ii) Lions Den for a bite to eat
iii) Splash ‘n Dash in Karoi – no scheduled stop off
iv) Makuti Hotel
I will stop in at Makuti Fuel station to find out if they have fuel when I go up on Thursday and send out a message on the groups.
If people are wanting to stop at the baobabs, please be careful as there have been a few lion sightings in the area in the past few weeks, so please keep both eyes open whether you’re stopped or riding!!
The road... We went up for Easter, and a few people have also been recently and given markers – it’s not great, but it’s avoidable if you travel at a decent speed, and wasn’t as bad as we expected it to be, but that was a few weeks ago now, and it’s rained!
After Afdis for about a km is rather bad holes, patched bits breaking up etc
Bottom of the D**e for about 3km there are some serious “whoopty” bits, so please take care there.
The stretch after Karoi to Makuti there are some quite serious potholes too (but all the way please be careful!), also avoidable if you’re not going at pace.
Makuti to Kariba – there are the odd pothole and side of the road that’s broken away, but the worst part is after the Charara turnoff to Kariba with those sand trucks... please watch for them as well, as they don’t stay on their side of the road and are all over the place. They drive fast too!!
There hadn’t been any fires yet, so most of the way the grass is long on the verges. A few parts, and going down some of the way from Makuti it has been trimmed back, so hopefully more has been done since, but just be aware.
ROADBLOCKS.... we all know about these guys!! We went through 24 on the way there, but only got stopped 3 times, but the slowing down before they let you through does slow down your trip! The worst ones that looked for absolutely anything were the ones just before Buffalo Downs. So just be prepared for them to stop you, be nice and friendly and generally they’re friendly back! I know it’s hard sometimes if they nit pick!!
