*CONCERT OFFICIAL STATEMENT*
*(MT DARWIN - RUYA RIVER* *RESCUE)*
*DATE: 15 JANUARY 2026**
ConCERT confirms its involvement in the Mt Darwin Ruya River rescue operation, which took place the morning of the 14th of January 2026, where a woman and her two children were stranded on an island following rising river levels.
Our team, led by 1st Responder Webster and supported by Coach Rambo and his assistant (LIFE-SAVING Zim), deployed from Harare during the night of the 13th and arrived in Mt Darwin in the early hours of the morning. Operations commenced at first light in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Upon arrival, ConCERT found the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Sub Aqua Unit, the Civil Protection Unit (CPU), and other stakeholders already on the ground and leading the rescue effort. In line with our mandate, ConCERT operated strictly as a pre-ambulance, community-based First Aid and emergency support service, complementing established Emergency Medical Services.
Our role at the incident was clearly defined and focused on:
1) Providing on-scene medical support immediately after the successful water rescue.
2) Conducting a rapid primary assessment of the rescued victims.
3) Implementing initial hypothermia management through thermal insulation.
4) Supporting rehydration and patient comfort.
5) Ensuring a structured and safe handover to the conveying medical team from Karanda Hospital for further definitive care.
ConCERTβs objective in such incidents is to bridge the critical gap between rescue and definitive medical care so as to improve patient outcomes through early intervention and support state and private EMS agencies through coordination, preparedness, and community-centered response.
We acknowledge and commend the Zimbabwe National Army, the Zimbabwe Republic Police Sub Aqua Unit, CPU, local authorities, Karanda Hospital, and all other stakeholders for their professionalism, collaboration, and commitment to saving lives. This operation once again demonstrates the importance of multi-agency cooperation in emergency response.
As ConCERT, we remain committed to our core purpose of serving communities through timely first aid, scene support and coordination, guided by our core values of Humanity, Integrity, Empathy, Compassion and above all Proffesionalism. Ours is an ideal that "Together we can make a difference in our communities, because every life is important" and as such we remain resolute to this cause.
